Hello all, currently in my 6th week solo and things have been going fairly smooth... still been doing my best to wake early to park early to avoid sticky situations later at night in these truck stops. I've been pleasantly surprised to see how many folks are willing to spot a backing rookie. Buuut the one thing that has allmost gotten me into some NASTY situations has been my NON commercial GPS! For some reason it just LOVES sending me right into the bee hives / spaghetti bowls instead of just routing me around city centers. Ive got enough cash on me to make it another 3 weeks but not if i pick up a new gps, i grabbed a paycheck before i left and didnt have time to cash it....anyone know where i can? I know TA here in PA cant and i don't think walmarts can cash checks over 300... bummer eh? Am i stuck getting a cab to a bank?... not to mention if a bank will even cash an out of state paycheck... thanks for the input y'all. -Ray

Be smarter then the GPS.
Get direct deposit. -
You can cash your checks at wallmart. Plenty of truck parking.

Welcome to WALMART

Why not just send it to your bank?, fill out deposit slip and fed ex it to them.
Like other poster stated. Direct deposit is your friend.. -
your gps should be your backup, not your main source for routing. the first few months I went over my routing from my company on my atlas and I wrote down my directions on yellow stickies and put them up on the windshield up in the corner. I didn't have a gps my first year on the road. only reason I have one now is because im with a new company and they have it on their driver tech

Whoa whoa hoold your horses people "be smarter than the gps, get direct deposits...... my company has20 trucks... we dont have direct deposits... secondly what said i was using GPS as my MAIN source for routing??? I did use the word ALMOST lol.
Now.... i could've SWORN walmart had a cap on how big of check you could xash... meh ill have to give them a ring. -
If you have a smartphone, most banks will have apps letting you take a picture of the check & deposit it.
And I don't care if the company has 2 trucks or 2000, electronic fund transfers are so easy to set up & automate that there is no excuse for an OTR company not offering it as an option. Dollars to donuts they are benefitting from the time delay between mailing checks & drivers actually getting the checks & depositing them. -
Sorry i cant but help make this observation...
I love how many drivers hate on GPS yet have one stuck to their windshield riiight now lol.... yes yes i totally agree and understand that the gps should be back up to the road atlas.
Here's MY way of routing... oh and just because it's not your way doesn't make it wrong or invalid lol
Step 1: plug gps with address
Step 2: confirm with atlas that the gps route is logical and legal
step 3: Google shipper / receivers company name to confirm i have correct address
Step 4:view location via sat view and street veiw (look for docks temp parking and turn aroundsNavigatorWife and Jrdude5 Thank this. -
I dont need to deposit the check, i need to ca$h it. Debt card is in the mail to boot.... and i cannot say as to why my company doesn't have direct deposit...... but i seriously doubt its because my boss is sitting in a leather arm chair rubbing his hands together thinking of the 5 extra days the cash will be acquiring interest... really?
