Well this just flat out sucks. I agree Jerez, that Cali's speed limit is ridiculuos, and it is kept low to help them collect extra money to help keep the state coffers full.and collecting funds and then not using them on the roads is not right either (neither is using big trucks as cash cows). But the speed limit is their law to set, and all you can do is obey it, and accept the fact that this is how the system works. And I know you didn't want to hear that again but it's the truth.
In the mean time, you could try and relocate, so you never had to go to cali again. Or you could stop driving truck, so you also wouldn't have to deal with the crappy situation. And while I wouldn't consider either option, the only other thing you can do is BOHICA. And slow down!

What else were you doing to piss off the officer? Most cops won't bother with that small of an amount because it is not worth their effort.
Speedometers vary + or - a few MPHs and I would sure think that a mere 3 would get thrown out of court. -
Actually, the real problem you are facing is not in how to pay the fines. It is going to come about when the company does it's annual yearly review of your driving record and all this information shows up. Unless they are a very forgiving outfit, you may well find yourself out from behind one of their steering wheels. As with any company, their insurer sets limits on who can be behind the wheel, and how may violations they can rack up over a set period of time. For a year, this is a healthy accumulation of violations.
Yes, the state has long been known for it's enforcement being a bit high handed towards trucks. Nothing that you can do about it, just comply with the laws.

Does the $ for the speeding tickets come out of your pocket ?
If driving a company owned truck?

Yes, it comes out of the drivers pocket. He/she is the one responsible for the speeding. -
The speeding tickets, the lane violation on 580, and the parking tickets are the drivers responsibility. The out of service ticket, if it's mechanical, should not be. The overweight ticket may or may not be, depending on the policies of the company. If the driver weighed beforehand and knew he was over on the weights, then that could be his ticket as well.
Again, its the accumulation that he needs to be worried about, because for one year, that;s quite a record. The parking tickets probably won't ever show up in any meaningful format, the weight ticket, if paid, will not appear on his license, but the rest of them will. An unpaid weight ticket will show up on the drivers record, so a driver has to ensure that if the company is responsible, they take care of it. -
I just got a ticket in Colorado 64 in a 60...
I also use to think they was stories or they had done something to tick the officer off..
I did nothing to tick him off and was the typical yes sir no sir..
He didn't even want to talk all that much.. walked up asked for my things went back to his SUV came back with a ticket 64 in a 60
So it does happen...
Things are getting bad out there... Cops are hammering the trucks relentlessly..
Far as Cali goes their ticket prices have always been high... Just another way for them to run their communist society out there. -
for the over weight i always hit a cat scale on loads over 20,000-25,000 (under that depends on the load and how it was loaded) but cat guarantees that if you scale legal on one of there scales then get an over weight ticket they will either pay it and fix there scale or fight it in court with you, then pay if you lose. and as far as the 55 truck limit its coming every where now or at least a reduced speed limit for trucks. i drive for schneider and got a 70 in a 55 in Illinois on i70 about the 100 now for any one who has not driven 70 through its almost totally flat. i went to court and fought that one (or more correctly the company lawyer did since there was no possible way i could go that fast on that terrain)
EDIT for those who dont know sni trucks are governed at 63-64 depending on the truck -
Its not about safety. Its a money grab. Trucks are a way for these states to supplement their tax revenues. Twenty years ago most states except Kailfornia would let you get away with 6/7 mi over the limit. Not anymore. Some local jurisdictions even do DOT inspections now.

In Cally, it's definitely about generating revenue. It's not about safety. If it were, our favorite state would require speed regulators. Ditto for other places. Ridiculously low speed limits are put in place because the state knows you won't bore yourself to death by driving those speeds. 'Sides...the split speed limits are too dangerous to justify, as speed doesn't cause accidents--velocity differences are what cause accidents.
There are good reasons why all those people have left Cally the past 20 years or so. Unfortunately, the state has to make up the lost tax revenue somehow, and it looks like you're the way. Again, ditto for other places.
