Has anyone worked as an owner operator for A&P trucking? I just put in an application to A&P they e-mailed me there contract, but have not given me a pay package. So last Friday I phoned them and asked them to send me one, I was told they would have to revise it and they would send one, still haven't received it. With out something in writing as to pay structure I don't know if I should trust them, all I have been told is they pay 1.74 a mile with the fuel rebate worked in. Without this on paper should I really trust them? They do not tell you what else is offered, so I am hoping someone has info on them. Thanks

No info on them, but you are absolutely right to not go any further without full written agreements on payment and terms.

    Good luck..

Thanks for the info, that is what I had thought, but being new owner operator I am still learning.

Lots of friends that are/were O/o and one thing I remember is that it is NOT like just walking away from a job as a company driver, it always costs you something.

You guys doing the owner operator thing put lot on the line when you sign on with someone. Huge investment of time, money, and future commitment of both. It may almost be worth having a business lawyer go through the contract as you can bet the company would to ensure THEY get the best end of the deal.

Not saying all places are bad, but I remember working at a large reefer company, and the O/o agreements were tricky, and NOT ALWAYS consistent.

    Good luck.

Especially if you're stupid enough to just up and quit. Most contracts have a clause requiring a month notice, that includes a penalty. I've never had anyone enforce it until the last one, they charged me $1500 plus 300 hst to quit.

If OO's were REAL business people they would all be asking for $20,000 in a escrow account.

Why put your livelyhood on the line to loan someone else money. Most OO'S are nothing more than little finance companies giving out unsecured loans.

To the OP..........GET EVERYTHING IN WRITTING.
