Do you have any experience? If not don't worry bout it for a year or two. Just because you can drive a truck don't mean you can run a successful business.
Wickedfire77 and ironpony Thank this. -
And I believe prime gets paid percentage of load. Not 100 percent sure tho

Don't lease. You will get burned regardless of what the company recruiters who troll these trucking forums tell you. If you want your own truck then save up for the down payment and buy one outright but if you cant afford to do this then stay a company driver....
.....or you can find out the hard way as many before you have done, its your choice. -

Recent current weekly earnings per mile per dispatched truck were as follows:
- $1.469 for the flatbed division
- $1.648 solo, $1.571 team for the refrigerated division
- $1.704 for the tanker division
- $3,490 for the flatbed division
- $3,771 solo, $5,772 team for the refrigerated division
- $3,375 for the tanker division
Once you're operating, you receive 72% of all line-haul revenues in the Refrigerated & Flatbed Divisions (71% in the Tanker division) generated by your truck.
Whenever and wherever you can save money, it's passed right back to you. For example, if you save money on fuel, whatever you save goes in your pocket. The more efficiently you run, the more money you make.
Prime was the first independent contractor company in North America to utilize Fuel & Route, a computer program designed to evaluate routing and fueling alternatives, for driver associates. This unique and innovative system recommends the lowest fuel stops for any given dispatch, which enables driver associates to substantially cut fuel costs and ensure on-time delivery.
So, no matter which division you prefer to operate in, Success Leasing, Inc. and Prime Inc. combine to give you the ability to not only earn a living but to provide a better lifestyle than you ever thought possible.
Unlike traditional pay packages, with Prime you are not limited to "cents per mile" or longevity with the company. You are, in essence, in business for yourself.
And, like hundreds of operators who have taken advantage of this program, you control when you run, where you run and how much you make.
The lease is the best in the business, and so is the equipment you'll operate. Success Leasing features only state-of-the-art equipment, outfitted with the most advanced technology available, and powered by 500 horsepower engines. Prime's modern fleet of refrigerated and flatbed trailers perfectly compliments Success Leasing's equipment.

Fuel is the BIGGEST expense you'll have as a o/o or l/o. I use fuel gauge's(myguages.com) which is a website for tracking fuel and its easy to use and is a free service to use.

Miles don't mean anything under our system except the more you run, the higher your costs for the week. The only thing that counts is gross revenue, and minimizing your costs - fuel is king of your profit/loss sheet on the debit side. We're paid 72% of linehaul, fuel surcharge and accessorial payments.
The best driver can certainly fail at this for being a lousy businessman. If you have never driven a truck before or have less than 2 or 3 years of experience, don't even consider leasing. The odds are better than 4 in 5 that you will fail financially in the first year. Experience at running a truck efficiently, learning from successful lease-ops, learning to do your own books, reading everything you can find about the business of trucking and running a shadow business with your company loads are some of the items that are necessary to even out those odds.
Oh really? I'm within 9 weeks of finishing my current lease. My net profit before taxes was somewhat more than $63,000 last year.Wickedfire77 and oldog1984 Thank this.
