Nothing grand here, just that I get to go in and do the urine test tomorrow morning. Got back into the shop this afternoon and the boss was smiling at me what a paper in hand - your turn. Okay, my turn. 2 years ago I went through fully 4 of them in on year's time.
I'm still driving a truck, so yeah, that means I passed all of them.
The point? I personally like this regulation of random testing. Who wants a drug-crazed driver out there, handling 40 tons of weight on our nation's highways? I DON'T and am PERFECTLY willing to go into Concentra ( the name of a gaint chain of testing facilities here - dunno if they're anywhere else) along with every other driver to at least help insure that we're all on the up-and-up when it comes to impaired driving.
In fact, I will drive the rig over to the parking lot and park the thing right there - I am paid by the hour and my company pays my hourly wage to go get tested! Lol

Coming from a non-trucker, it is good to hear things like that. You are a stand up guy!

After spending 4 years in the MARINES and a 1 year contract with the Army and 7 years on the road I figure I have donated a lot of urine for testing. I am proud as well that I have never "popped" on a test.
It is an important part of this industry. Like you said trooper Rat , 40 tons of vehicle going down the road does not need some intoxicated driver going 70 mph behind the wheel. We (drivers) are not always looked in the best of light by non-trucks and I think it is important that we maintain some professionalism.
Good Post TropperRat! -
I personally think random drug testing should be done more often.
I don't have an issue with being tested what so ever. -
I wouldn't mind if it was done more often either. The only thing is that it takes so much time to go and do it. I think it would be great if companies could just do it onsite instead of having to go to a specific location, takes too much time away from work. Seems like with technology, portable test kits that are sent into a lab would be a viable option...but then again, lawyers would probably have a field day with that one...
-
AGREED! We used to do this onsite as the nurse came right to the terminal.
I do believe there are a few companies around here that do this onsite still.
The last couple of times I was tested, had to go to the med center, which like you said takes time. -
I do agree with random drug testing and I also think it should be done more.. Personally I would like to see all Congress, the house and even the President subjected to random drug testing.. I always have said you can't work a McDonald's without being subjected to random drug test but you can run the country without being subjected to a random drug test...
I had a bunch more typed out but I will cut it and just leave it as is... -
All of you sound so straight and narrow. You are thinking drug testing is keeping the work place safe. Don't get too comfortable with that idea. There is a entire industry out here dedicated to assisting the dopers in not testing positive, thus remaining on the job in whatever state they my be in, stoned or not. Get real people. Every law, rule, and regulation has a go-around.

Just because someone passes a drug test doesn't mean they're drug free. They just may be smarter than the tester. -
That is the part I left out..
No I always have not been strait and narrow.. Unlike Clinton I did inhale back in high school...
My personal opinion is what a man does on his own time is his own business and has nothing to do with me.. once he steps behind the wheel then its my business if he is not sober.... That's the way I look at it..
I first should say I have not done anything over 12 years.. I personally don't see what someone did 2 weeks ago at home would effect ME today.. unless they was using while "ON" the job...
The part about congress and the president I was making a point..
Have you ever heard of a CEO being drug tested? my point here is a double standard in America when it comes to random drug testing.. If one should be subjected to it then all should be even or political leaders.... -
Well Im not really sure why people would think it takes too long. Only took me about 20 minutes and I stopped under load. Didnt even have to go far out of the way. No big deal. my company test 25% of employees every quarter. I doubt my other companies do that, but i think thats a fair number. Keep safe and keep hauling.
