All these places have something to ##### about. A few raggedy trailers is hardly worth the complaints. I worked there for over a year, and as far as companies go they are one of the better ones. I left there to do the choice program at Schneider so I could pick my own freight. Otherwise I would be there still.

The only thing that has changed with HB in the past several years from my perspective is the recent changes made to the FSC. They used to pay the full DOE FSC for all dispatched miles and now it is that minus 5 cents per mile (so, if the DOE finds the average price to be $4.20 nationwide the FSC would be 50 CPM, and HB now pays 45 CPM). Owners can make up some or all of this difference by driving more efficiently, but as for myself I already operate this way and it is effectively a 5 CPM pay cut.

thank you jrotr for your response. I have read your blog and this lease seems like it can be done. I would operate in the same manner you did. I live in okc ok,but I have not talked to any drivers. I work for a local concrete outfit in okc ,but want to go back otr. jr,do you still have your same Volvo? is it running good. thanks

Yes, I still have my 2007 Volvo. It is getting close to 600,000 miles now and it has been running fairly well (recently replaced air compressor and air drier, fixed a number of leaks; the usual stuff).

Jim, plus you're paying for Qualcomm. And Prepass. And Fuel Taxes. You never got all of the FSC. They have that schedule based on average fuel prices weekly, nowhere near what they were collecting from shippers. You got a discounted amount because they pay it on deadhead miles. I liked running with 100% FSC and just paid miles on deadhead. Of course that wasn't at HB. Glad to hear you're doing well.

I also pay for plates and registration and HUT... as I stated in my original post: "The only thing that has changed with HB in the past several years from my perspective..." There was a change several years ago where compensation was changed (base rates went up, longevity pay was removed, certain fees like Qualcomm were moved on to our side of the ledger, etc.), but the post I was responding to was looking for current information.

As far as the FSC, some contracts with shippers have it and some don't, and none of them are calculated the same way O/O's are paid. If you know of any group of shippers that is paying a lot more in FSC than what the DOE calculates provide a list; I expect it would be a rather short one.
