Did they let you check the truck out before you signed on the dotted line (dyno run, oil samples and so on)?

i'm not going to spend money on things i can do for free. but, being a retired mechanic. i kind of have the upperhand over the rest of you guys that have no mechanic experience. you do get to take a road test with a loaded trailer. they have a trailer with jersey barriers in the yard. and the trucks are generally in the 300 - 400k range.
they fix everything that needs fixing. and pay for any repairs needed in 30 days. and come with current dot inspections. which have to be done every 90- days. if the truck passes. they pay. if it fails you pay plus expenses.
i do miss the extra 25 horses i had in the last truck though. but i've got the tightest truck i've ever had the pleasure of driving. also the lowest miles.
i c one load taking me home. and tons leaving home. INCLUDING a steel plant i want to get in with. but man, finding loads to get me east don't seem to be happening unless i want to haul cheap.
i c no reason to stay out for weeks at a time when i can make the same amount and still be home weekly. just like the brokers and shippers/receivers. -

Good luck to you with your new venture. I imagine the learning curve is steep and mistakes can be costly. -
them ones crying the blues are the ones that really don't know what to look out for. LOL.
i don't see any costly mistakes happening. if i haven't figured out after 2 years. i shouldn't be doing this.
i'm enjoying myself. going where ever in the heck i want. but right now. getting out of montana is turning into a joke. i may have to pull some air for a few miles just to get out of here. lots of wood to be hauled. and they're all shopping for the cheapest brokers.
the load i had booked to get me home. and go from there. went for half price on another truck. WHAT A IDIOT. -
but on the other hand. i don't know how they do it with the cheap rates on this side of the country hauling nothing but wood and sheetrock and steel.
i've got wood to haul if i wanna run for free. and only found one that was no tarp.
we've got some oversized loads going to north dakota. but i don't know if i'm ready to be hauling 12 feet wide and 12 fet high till i learn the ropes and get comfortable with this company. -
glad i've got a furnace on this truck. keeps me all warm and fuzzy without the engine.
