do tanker drivers sit as often as van drivers?

Sounds like a company driver. That is decent without truck expenses. O/O should make at least double that. How much do you charge per hour Mike?

    Hey Ethos,
I'm also a Schneider driver (in dry van). I'm thinking about making the move after a couple years experience to try local gas tanker work. I was thinking about moving over into Schneider bulk at some point as that would give me direct tanker and hazmat experience. I'm a newbie making .33 a mile. If I went to Schneider bulk I assume I would be making more money, yes? Any drawbacks or other advice you care to offer about tanker work with Schneider?
    -Thanks

I didn't catch that he was a company driver, that's decent for a driver. We don't get enough either, but it is $40 an hour after 2hrs.

I don't know what the trucks worth, as I don't own it, but I get $21 an hour after the first hour. Rergardless of whether the company gets paid or not. No arguing, or listening to all the reasons they won't pay, its just added in with the load pay.

that $20 mark seems to be the norm for drivers doing local & regional tanker work. the place i work for pays that plus a full benifit package but thats here in the twin cities area and they are always looking for more help

Hard to find safe experienced drivers who are willing to work nights/weekends,holidays for 3-5 years or longer before getting weekday shifts...

back in 2006 i started out pulling tanks for them as soon as i turned 21, i made 4cents more($0.34 vs $0.30) per mile than i would have with a van. tank guys also get paid more for touching hoses pumps and compressors. the trucks are only 12ft 6 high and those 45 ft by 96 trailers are much easier to park. no screwed up docks to back into. some tank washes will feed you free of charge too. you will always be maxed out on weight and that liquid forces you to be slower. stay clean and after your 1st or 2nd year go to altom, heniff, or find a small paper log company for better pay and treatment. o yeah when its time for you to go home always tell them if a hot load pops up that you will do it. then hit the dispatcher for $150 or $200 in extra charges. if its hot(needs to move asap) it should pay well and they will give it to you or send you right on home. stick it to them when you can because they are not paying enough to pull any trailer. finish your year and better yourself. good luck

Always maxed on weight ? We average gross 75,000 lbs. and our tanks are dedicated . Almost half our miles are running empty at the same pay . The hazmat tankers only see a tankwash when they are due for inspection or for some repairs . Others are washed at the home terminal after being dropped .

id say 75000 is close enough to maxed out for the typical van guy making a switch but what do i know. by the way my wheel base is exactly 243.987654321 inches and not 244 inches. just wanted to make sure we are all clear on that. and yes 50% empty miles is common. not common for me and my tank tho.
