Call recruiters, give them a "sob story" and tell them how you turned your life around. Most companies have a bit of wiggle room for the right person. That being said, you have no work history until 2012 and although your story paints a picture of someone who has changed, your still a much bigger risk in a recruiters mind. Mention the degree as it shows you can commit to something. Make sure you talk to someone, and not just fill out there online application. Be persistent as they will say no unless you keep polity pressuring them.

That being said, unless you really showed me in person that you turned your life around, I wouldn't hire you. It cost thousands of dollars for a company to train you and they want to know that money wont be wasted. Most of your crimes are over 10 years old and may be irrelevant. Make sure you dont give companies more info then they ask for. Good Luck

How old are your children? My husband was on the road in years past doing electrical work for B&R and other companies for about 4 yrs and believe me it is hard on kids to understand why their daddy isn't home. He sometimes was out 6mos at a time. One day our 18mo old daughter finally had it dawn on her "where is daddy" and started missing him bad. Our son was 10 also. He didn't get into trucking until after our daughter was well raised and had kids of her own.

The job you have now is very commendable, having had an autistic brother, I know the challenges that families are faced with and the difficulties they face daily getting help.

As others have stated I don't know if I would sink money into a school and then find out that no one will hire you. The market is not a great money maker either at places like
C R England, they love lease drivers and keep the miles down to spread them around amongst all; you might end up having to have a loan to even eat yourself (husband was there, did that and moved on). I'm not sure how the other companies work that have schools.

Most apps will start out saying 3yrs job history to start the process, but ultimately they will have the full app where you will have to fill out for 10yrs. This is where you will need to check with a recruiter and see what to do for the missing gaps. People look also for missing gaps as an indicator of someone perhaps being in jail.

Good luck, there are a lot of truckers who love trucking, but it is work; tiring, unthankful and aggravating at times; too many careless drivers in cars and even trucks. Too many things in childrens lives to miss out on and never be able to regain.

Sir the REAL honest answer to your question is I could give you an interview, think you would make a great fit for the direction I am going, promise (and deliver) to do the best job that I could to keep you loaded and making money. We could go thru all that then I submit you to the insurance company and then they will TELL me if I can hire you. Sorry about the reality but insurance hires. Best of luck to you Sir.

I wouldn't spend the money on a CDL yet. If you don't get a job in a few months it will be worthless. I'm going through that right now. I have a perfectly clean record and MVR and have had my CDL for 20 years. Even drove an oil tanker for 5 years a while ago. The only companies I have a chance with are the ones that will re-train me. So my CDL is basically worthless right now. Find a company that will hire you before you waste your money on a cdl. I guarrantee if you don't, you will be paying for it again once you find someone that will hire you.

It's crazy that people with records can't get a job. Everyone deserves a second chance and everyone should be allowed to work. I'm amazed that you can't get it expunged. Usually after 10 years you can do that. I just did it and now can answer "no criminal record" on an app. My stupidity happened 20 years ago. When I was 18 and right before I decided to get my CDL. 10 years later I was not even close to the same person I was when everything happened to me. You do a lot of growing up between 18 and 28 years old. I had the same problem as you finding a job and gave up. Got a low paying oil truck job working for an ### for a while but decided it wasn't the right time. Now i'm in the clear and ready to go. Nothing is holding me back.

I actually think your biggest problem might be lack of work history. Don't be in a rush to spend your money on a CDL. patients is going to be your best friend. Get 3 years work history under your belt and then don't take no for an answer. As you can see from some of the replys on here there are people out there willing to look past your record. But please don't waste your money like I did. It's really hard to look past the record and short work history. Winning the lottery might be easier. Remove any strike against you that you can first.

And congratulations on getting your life straightened out. It will pay off eventually.

There are several companies that hire new driver with criminal records and right out of prison. If the driver goes to a CDL school, they will hire him at graduation.

That statement holds no water. Our government has let Obama commit numerous acts of treason. TSA is a joke sorry but they put a what 4 year old on a no fly list? As for the hazmat fingerprinting yet another joke they'll give that to almost anybody as well. And finally they will also give anybody a cdl. I agree with Joseph on this one. I wouldn't hire you yes it appears as though you have turned your life around you should be proud of that however I wouldn't put you in either one of my trucks just can't take a risk with a criminal record like that.

Whatever you do. DO NOT LIE TO A RECRUITER, they will find out, and you will be terminated.
