Rand McNally Deluxe Motor Carriers Atlas. Doesn't use batteries, never looses its signal. It only cost 40 bucks and I paid for it with rewards points at a Pilot so mine was free.

I use Google Maps navigation on my phone for GPS. I only use it for local routing and to give me a general idea of how far I have left to go.

Never trust a GPS to route you. Always check the route against your atlas.

I personally think the $500 truckers GPS is a waste of money. Unless its given to me as a gift I'll never use one.

I wouldn't waste the money on one if you're just starting out. Save your money for now.

You can't only rely on the GPS. Motor Carrier Atlas is the most important. We have dumb phones.

IMO you should NEVER have a car GPS in the truck. Even with a truck gps you still need to use your brain. READ the signs. If you see a sign that says "NO TRUCKS ALLOWED" don't go down it! The Police won't take "But, my GPS told me to...: as an excuse.

I like the quick features to find places to park. The Walmart parking feature is nice. We had a w/a that didn't have final directions. When we called they gave us the longitude and latitude, kind of different, punched it in and took us right there. The 7" is easier to see on rough roads.

I do agree with razororange when he basically said if you are new don't spend the money. Learn on your own 1st. The GPS is just a tool not the holly grail of trucking.

The thing I love most about my rand m. Gps is how fast I can make a decision on where I am going to fuel.oe spend the night. I have it dialed in so good.for.how I drive, I can utilize my clock to.where I will run it down to.5 minutes without a worry. I would not want to be out here without it. Worth every penny of my fuel bonus that I spent on.it!

Yep a 7" Jim asked if it was a DVD player too when he saw it. lol We have used the 5" but like I said in previous post the 7" has a much bigger screen so when on rough roads it is much easier to see and read.

^^^ what Jim said. Mind set is everything. I'd say the rand m is 90% - 95% accurate. But you need to use it with the mind set of that it is 10% inaccurate. While that might sound like splitting hairs, ... One way is "Nah... I'm Good, I'm good." The other is " Hmmmm hold up here... I might not be good." Lol. Mean while you find yourself chin deep in it. If you get a ticket going Mav directions Mav will pay for it. Get one going your GPS directions... your on your own. Oh and don't forget.... Directions are different then routing. Directions are advised, routing is suggested.
