I have the Rand McNally 7". It is a very usefull tool. I also use the Atlas, Mav routing and directions, Google earth, street view, MapQuest, binoculars, the stars, the sun, moon, compass, landmarks, phone customer, phone ext service so they can beep me to tell me where I'm at :) call wife to pull up MapQuest on home computer so I don't have to stop, CB to ask other drivers, look at migratory birds for direction, are there other semi's on this road and what a good feeling when there are. Well I got a little carried away, but I use many sources. Lol, uh what state am I in? Ever been driving on a 4 lane divided highway thinking you're on I-40 and come into a town with stoplights going north and not east like you thought. Trust me, it's a very uncomfortable feeling. What the #%&@!!! Lol

Here's why you need a GPS and CB. Last night I'm coming across I-44 and hear someone say there has been an accident 5 miles ahead and all lanes are blocked. I know that I only have 20 "extra" minutes on the clock. I quickly zoom into the map on the GPS find a new route and exit the highway. I passed miles of stopped traffic but did I loose 20 minutes? Can I still make it to the truck stop? Well that is automatically figured out for me, and yes I now had 6 extra minutes and made it. You have to be able to make these decisions on the fly, the elogs have no forgiveness.

I apologize if I wasn't clear. I 100% agree with Jim's above statements. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents to it. My reply was directed to new drivers.

CaptainX3 is who you need to talk to about TCD.

Though I can confirm that you will be out for a minimum of 2 weeks at a time with TCD. You get one day off for every week out.

Yup, 2 weeks at a time minimum. If you have any TCD specific questions, ask away!

It's been pretty steady lately, getting around 2300 the last 2 weeks, and the week before that there were several issues that killed off that week, but for the most part it's been decent.

I've never had to touch freight while working here, other than putting load locks in place. I've volunteered to help unload at a couple places where it was just one guy who stayed over to unload me instead of making me wait until the next day, so I grabbed a pallet jack and helped. But I've never been told that I had to touch the freight.

We do have some drop and hook customers but most are not. ConAgra/Americold is almost always drop and hook, and technically Tyson can be, but they take so long to load that you're taking a 10 hour break between when you drop and when you hook, so it doesn't count in my opinion lol.

They're working on getting us as many drop and hooks set up as possible, but we're still a small division and we don't have thousands of trailers we can leave everywhere. So it's a process. But we are paid detention pay after waiting for 3 hours to load or unload, so that helps.

Keep 'em coming if you have more :)
