    Hello all,
I'm going to England's driving school in a few weeks and I will be driving for them (not leasing) after that. I live in Nashville and I'll be going to the location in Illinois. They have said that they are buying a bus ticket for me to go up there. Is it better to drive up there or to take the Greyhound? Will I be returning to that terminal often enough to be able to use my car?

    Thanks,
    Carter

There is no good way to go to england. Best bet is to try someone else. Just read the horror stories here. I got up and walked out of orientation in 2008 when they said they had no avail. company trucks and i had to lease.

I hate to admit it, but in jan of 2006 i went to schneider school to get my cdl and pull tanks at 21. although i grew up around trucks my dad didnt have the patience to let me beat his truck up learning. the training was very good, but part of that was the fact that i got an old trainer who used to be an owner operator and believed in the old school ways. get ur cdl and move on to a paper log company without satalites after your 1 year contract is up with whomever you start with. a lot of small companies who dont have tracking will treat you better and get you home more than a large mega carrier in general, but there are exceptions to that.
I highly recommend going to a company that pays percentage because you will learn more about the industry and pass through other doors smoother if you choose to do so. Try to start with a tank or flat. a dry van company or reefer outfit will hire anyone, but for flat tank dump you need training or experience to get hired most places.
Be smart and give yourself options.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE THE TYPICAL IMPATIENT BRAIN DEAD BUM ON THE ROAD WHO CANT THINK! remember that and never stop seeking knowledge of the business and you'll be fine. stay away from cr england and good luck

If you change your mind, try these two TN based companies that have their own CDL school also. Check their websites.

    R.E.West - Lebanon, TN (van & flatbed)

Milan Express - (van & linehaul)

Don't rule out Prime Inc. either. Excellent training and $600.00 a week while riding with a trainer. Not positive but I think they have a tanker division in Chattanooga and a reefer division in Shelbyville. Maybe some Prime driver out there can set me straight if I'm wrong on any of this.

Best wishes to you. used to live in Nashville & it's a great little city with plenty of good trucking jobs.

Don't go to cre. They are among the bottom feeders. I speak from experience. Ask just about anyone here, they're the plague

cbeach, did you do any research on CR England before deciding to sign on with them? If you do a search here and probably on other sites as well there are many horror stories about driving for england.

There will be lots of home time available if he doesn't fall for the lease since they will tell him there are no company trucks available. Why anyone would do any type of company sponsored training is beyond me.
