Just finished my first week with Roadmaster truckdriver school; in San Antonio, TX. Professional school; instructors are very knowledgeable, admin has been very helpful also. My instructor has shown, and taught me exactly what I needed to pass my permit and air brake test! I couldn't expect anything more than that. The only thing I am concerned about at this moment is that my recruiter knows that the VA is slow with paper work and payments for truck driving schools. I will let you know how that works out! I think company recruiters are paid by the student sitting in the classroom, and that is their motivation.

I would discourage people from doing stuff like this. Personally, I think less of vets who do this.

Second week done, and I am still impressed with the knowledge and patience of the instructors. I had a little difficulty today with down shifting, and my instructor talked me through my issues in such a manner for me to understand it and correct my problem. In the afternoon we started parallel parking; our instructor explained the procedure to do it, and then walked and talked us through it a few times and then we were on our own. We all understood it and had no problems; because of the way he taught us to do it. It's not for everyone though; 22 students took there driving test today with the Texas DPS and 7 failed. I don't know any of the circumstances of why they didn't pass. I still think this school is top notch, and only want to let everyone know it's not a rip off school at all!!!

I was going to go through Roadmaster in San Antonio when I 1st got out the military. They didn't seem professional but this was in 2007 before I decided to to back to the infantry. They had a issue with me already having a CDL and not driving for a while because I was military abunch of smart comments was made. Im glad things seems different for you. Their is a trucking out fit in Texas to where you can use your VA benefits and get your monthly stipend. It's a Apprenticeship program. Might want to look into it new drivers really don't make much it pays 100% for 6 months then 75% for 6 months then 50% for 6 months so it's a little extra for you.

dave was the guy I talked to also good guy the classroom part is boring as it gets the skills and road driving is intense the instructors are hard on you and really push you but they really do care that you pass I am planning on keeping in touch with some of them if you listen to them and try. It will be ok the ones that dont listen have miserable days and then did not pass
