#1 craziest post I have read yet. I do know a guy who is selling his DOT number. I think he told me he wants $400,000 includes 5 trucks and ~15 trailers.
-
Hell, I'll sell you my DOT number for $20. Don't think my company will be very happy with me when I scrape it off the side of my truck though.

Well since you have only been at this for a year or so--let me help--It is a WELL KNOWN fact that whenever a driver has a problem--(especially at shipper or receiver)that you can summon help from the US Marshall service--with the heavy volume of calls the marshalls are getting--especially from te mega carriers who have recently decided to enter the temp control side of the biz--the marshalls have enlisted the help of their friends at the DEA--because it is also a well known fact that all federal agencies get along VERY well and work hard at sharing information and keeping this industry safe.
Hope this helps

Like others say you're just throwing good money away for something that will help you out in no way whatsoever. These brokers in loadboard land are not impressed with old MC #'s - they are double brokering & shilling excess customer loads as cheap as possible for spot rates. Better rates will typically be found on the contract side, not always, but most times. Your experience and own good sense in sifting the good from the bad in spot is what will get you a rate, old MC # or new.

Just set up a new DOT-MC. If your a brand new company and not one switching from a bad safety rating you will be fine. But if you are switching from a bad rating they will know unless you change your Phone numbers, company owner, address and all.

Some brokers may not load you for the first 6-12 months, but most will do business with you as long as you have current authority and adequate insurance. If you purchase someones authority that is inactive, it will be the same as if you have new authority, in the eyes of those who care about the age of your business. It will be just as well for you to just apply for your own authority and go from there. In fact, as I recall, the feds charge a transfer fee from the current owner to the new owner, that is about the same as if you apply yourself.

$50,000 for 468xxx, DOT 107xxxx and FL corporation in good standing.

G- Man is correct on his info for the inactive #. I got mine in 85 and ran with it till 91. Had a friend that wanted to buy mine in 97 (inactive), but the cost for transfer fees plus my fee, it was more cost effective for him to apply for a new #. Time wise it made no difference.
