Mom & Pop companies aren't always the "holy grail" of trucking jobs. It's true that many times you could be treated better at one than you would at a larger company, but it isn't always the case. I work for a small company with about 15 trucks total, and they are one of the best I've ever driven for. They treat you good, are quite accommodating when you need time off, pay fairly and on time, and have a true open door policy. On the other hand, I worked for a small company a few years ago that would rip you off in a heartbeat, treated you like crap, had an absentee owner who was never available, and ran horrible equipment.

Gist of the story: there's good and bad companies in all segments of the trucking industry. You just have to find the one that works for what you need out of your employment and your personal situation. For some, that may be the dedicated gig with a mega carrier, long haul with a medium sized one, local, or whatever...

There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to trucking.

It's really about location ...dedication ....dedicated...and patience...all the complainers on my account ...just means bigger checks for me...I keep my mouth shut..This job isn't for everyone...I work for a mega carrier and do mighty fine all around...If you cant make peace with yourself ...time to pack up...save yourself future health issues and the migrains...

No-there must have been a type error-been driving 24 years. I was and am hireable by almost every company (not doubles) but when Ozark found they would have to pay me top of the scale-I was suddenly unhireable. I have friends who worked there, have seen their equipment-not the greatest, and have seen them wait hours and hours for Fedex freight, and low miles. I am glad I never went with them in the end. If you like/liked it there -good for you. This is a place for drivers to discuss/mention companies and trucking-not to put others down. Again, I don't consider them one of the better companies.
    Thanks

We dont wait hours for fedex loads. Often times we deliver early in day, do 10 hour break and then grab a fedex load late night. I consistently run 2800-3000 miles a week. $.39 cpm isnt top of pay scale, my friend started when i did at $.40.5 cpm. Equipment is not the shiniest on the road but ozark does make sure they pass dot inspections. BTW the old columbias are phasing out and we are getting all cascadias.

Thanks. I now know i just have to stay with someone until i get enough time behind the wheel to get with a company that will pay. I'll say this thought. I am 41and never had any problems driving at all. Not 1 ticket for anything. . I drove for england for a month and went broke but i will find someone to drive for.

Mega company, mom & pop and all in between, they all have their goods and their bads regardless of their size. The experience a driver has in a company depends in part on his/her attitude, performance and relationship with others in that company. Try to learn as much as possible before applying in order to avoid bad surprises.
BTW, those of you driving for Ozark, or have driven for them, does Ozark let a driver take 5 days off (after 2 months on the road)? If so, do they have to slip seat? Let another driver use the truck during their hometime?
Do they let their drivers stay a month or 2 on the road or do they keep bringing them to terminal frequently for "hometime"?
And what regions do they normally run?

I've been on this forum for less than 12 hours and already see your input is far from constructive. Do you have nothing better to do than stir and put negative opinions where they are not wanted? Flatbedn?? I see in your picture, a dry van with a VOLVO, I'm guessing with an automatic transmission. I wonder if you are the Ozark driver that entertained me for a half hour backing in to a dock with 5 acres and no obstructions. The purpose of forums is for people to vent and get HELPFUL advise from people with experience, not for people with nothing better to do because no one wants to be near them, to read and add insults.

No I have constructive input from time to time here and I too will get out and help new drivers on the road. Flatbedn?? Yea I pulled flatbed prior to coming here and guess for who? A small carrier where the fleetowner didnt pay me for my last 2 weeks in excess of $1800. My "Volvo" is not an automatic, Our company doesn't run automatic trucks at all, None. Nope wasn't me entertaining you, sorry.

As for your post earlier in the "Report a bad trucking company" you did just that but left out the most pertinent info, the name of the company. Yes I called you out because there is alot of guys that post those same type of post and then never return. Or people read warnings of a company such as england, don't listen and then come back and tell us what 1,984,559 people have already said and then get their panties in a wad when someone says they should have heeded warnings.

I call it like I see it. I read through some posts as I am new here and find it interesting to see what people have to say. Funny thing is almost everywhere I see the Barney avatar I also see insulting behavior. I understand how difficult it must be to be the only human being that knows the meaning of life and the secrets of the universe at the age of 29 but how about showing a little respect. If you don't like when people are rude to you, you should observe the golden rule!

Care to tell me where you see insulting comments? If you come here and ask how long to pass a drug test after smoking a bowl, im going to bust you out. That is about the only time i'll call someone out, or when they come here and give half info needed to steer clear of company but hey whatever. People are rude to me everyday, no big deal. Let me apologize for the callout in your thread earlier, it was wrong, Im sorry.

Also I dont know the meaning of life or universe at all, so that was an incorrect assumption. I called this guy out for trash talking the company im with and happy with because they refused to hire him. It had nothing to do with his pay scale as he said since i see guys come in capped out at max pay. So if me calling him out for making eronous marks about my company as well as many other companies he has never worked for is insulting, im sorry for that too.
