    Hello,

I am thinking of becoming a trucker. I am a female.

    I had some questions.

    1. If you are an otr driver, do you drive all over the US for most companies? Or do most have a specific part of the US they drive in? I'd like to drive all over...
    2. If you forego your apartment and live on the road, can you just take a day off and stay in a hotel? Or do you have to be back somewhere in three weeks or something?
    3. Do you actually drive for 3-4 weeks straight with no day off? How many hours a day do you usually drive?

1 yes. you can drive all 48 states. canada too if your company goes there and you have a passport. most bigger companies don't go into mexico. you drive to border and another company from mexico takes it down. 2. you can stay out as many days as you want.most companies like you to stay out a minimum of 3 weeks. you can take your day off anywhere you want. i givew at least one week notice to where you want to stop. i put all my stuff in storage and planned to take time off with family and freinds. 3. depends how many hours you have available for that day and where you are going. but you can drive for 11 hours within a 14 hour period in a day. if i'm gonna be out on the road, i want to keep moving though thats not always the way it goes lol. hope this helps.

I guess I don't really know too much about trucking. Say you drive from LA to NJ and drop off a load. Then your company finds you another load somewhere close to NJ and you take it somewhere else. This may take a day? Then what? You sit in your truck or a hotel? And this goes on and on...

otr trucks have sleepers where you take your breaks in. some drivers will stop and get a hotel just to get out of truck. sometimes you wait a while betweens loads, if that happens i go to nearest truckstop and stay there until a loads gets assigned. my plan was to work 2 months then take time off, but thats me. rite now i'm on medical leave due to eye surgery. in this industry, you're not gonna work 6 days then go home. though you might get on a dedicated route where you take 34 hours off at home. lots of variables to go thru lol

you'll find staying at hotels gets expensive most companies dont reimburse for them, some drivers are out 3-4 weeks at a time some 1-2 weeks. generally home times is 1 day off for every week out..
    Good Luck
