Well I discovered today that the engine has been changed at sometime, the model # identified it as originally and industrial spec, so that means they probably swapped out the governors etc, my typo its a TA spec rather than TTA

Update, engine was originally TTA, but when check # via DD specialist if valve cover plate matches the engine it's now a non-highway
TA so only will know for sure when I do the engine service. Model is a KM64TF which is the shorter nose with forward axle.
Just came back from my 2nd visit to the truck, installed my S/Single Alcoa w/ 425/65 tires, 2 new batteries, mocked up temp mudflaps
Clean out inside, next visit will change oil and all filters. & finally drive it home.
I think it's starting to look good for a $2500 truck ?
x#1 Thanks this. -
Looking good and powered by a real engine

If there is a lot of thicker black oil coming out of the air box drains instead lesser amounts of thinner black oil, I would suspect the blower seals need replacing. Not a hard job to do. Expect to use about 1 gallon of oil every 700-1000 miles on a used 2 stroke.
Loosen the oil drain plug before starting the engine and see if any antifreeze drips out. If you find any, fix it quick before you loose a crank. I had a small liner crack on a 6V92 and lost the crank and block. Never noticed any water loss. It must have happened quickly. -
I had all the inspection plates off, not that much oil in there, but it is thicker black oil, even though pan oil is still clean, I now suspect blower seals, also my air compressor is worn out, evidence of some clean oil in air system. So plan to buy both NOS parts off eBay.
Other thing I didn't realized is that truck has a Luberfiner 750 external bypass filter, which was not serviced when I changed oil & filter, that apparently requires 2-3 extra gals of oil so this would explain some loss, + I had 1.5 gals of oil in my temp' catch cans for the drip tubes. Now I've clean the valves + it had a good run home they only weep, so most of this was from the old load up in valley from all it previous idling & bad thin out oil. -
If you don't have an air dryer on that truck you will have oil in the tanks every day, that's just normal for those years of trucks.
Try it without doing anything and see if it uses more oil that I posted. There may not be anything wrong. But, the blower seals are known to leak. If the blower shaft is slipping on the bearing, just knurl or punch it instead of trying to find a new one. That will work as good as new. Be sure and check for water in the pan. Good luck with it.
Ues straight 40 weight oil in the summer and straight 30 weight in the winter. -
If any of you guys want a project engine, I have one in pieces that I am never going to use. Most of it is all there, minus the turbo. There are new liners, pistons, rods, and new injectors in the box. There is a gasket kit as well, but I am not sure it is complete. I believe it was a 475 when it was together.
