I didn't realize there is a difference on Flatbeds, however I never dealt with flatbeds so I wouldn't know. Just never seen it in the regs.

Everything we haul will kill us or those around us. A 50.000 lbs coil is a time bomb waiting to go off. Most loads can be deadly. We check our loads 50 miles after we load. I do 1 hr. And then every 3 hours. The trailers flex and chains can get loose. Try to remember that when you cut a flatbed off. If he loses that coil after it goes thru his truck it will come looking for you.:biggrin_2554:

Ummm when was 150 miles ever used for hazmat? I learned it was every 2 hours and/or 100 miles traveled for hazmat. I have never heard of this 3 hour 150 mile check.

I know the 2 hour 100 mile stipulation was repealed but I though it had more to do with the quality improvements of tires over the years.

This is what the little green fmcsr book says, but I don't know many who actually do it. They may write it down, but never actually stop.

No it changed due to the 911 , they don't want drivers with haz-mat stoping on that account. Maybe I am wrong but I swore it was 150 miles or every 2 hours. Hmmm, So long I can't remember, BAD OF ME??

You are supposed to log how log it takes you to "DEAL" with it.

What you must consider is are you on line

    1) off duty: Free to do what you want, eat, shop, gamble etc. (in the consideration you shouldn't be drinking/doing drugs.
    2) sleeper: Are you in the sleeper while you await?
    3) driving : Are you behind the wheel?
    4) are you waiting for them to repair your truck, are you in their shop waiting room, are you not able to relax in the sleeper or do what you want, shop etc?

you have to answer 1 of those 4 questions and there is your answer. That's in many cases you deal with daily.

I have a question about logging pre/post, can't find an answer.

we run as a team. Generally, I log my pretrip around 0300, and my post trip around 1500. My husband will log his pretrip around 1500 and his post trip around 0300 the following day. Is this not correct? How should he log his pre/post?

    thanks.

I belive that each driver is required to do a pre trip it depends on the company policy's.
Alot of companies want at least 1 pre or post trip and a vi.
I was told to do a quick vi at every stop that I made.
One reason to do a quick vi at every stop is someone can pull your 5th wheel release and your trailer could fall on the ground as you are driving. You can at a vi find a flat tire ar a screw, nail, bolt etc in your tire that you did not see when you did the pre/post trip.

I also go into the habbit of doing a pre trip in the morning
(more light so you can see better) That way I could see if any new damage to the truck or trailer.
I was parked with my trainer at some truck stops and a couple of service plaza's off of the toll roads. Our trailer was hit the my first night on the truck, then our trailer was hit at a service plaza. We had bad luck I was thinking that swift was following us.:biggrin_255:
All that really happend was a couple of marker lights were taken off.

Then there are some lazy drivers at May We picked up trailers that had bad tires, bad brakes, lights etc.
We actually picked one up and had to get 5 new tires on it. It was either that or get one that had lights missing.
Needsless to say I forced my trainer to drive with the bad tires I did not want that resposibilty and the possibly of getting a huge ticket and being placed out of service.

If I ever have a question regarding a bad tire or a bad brake I go straight to the shop if I am at the terminal that has one.
If they say it's ok then I say can I get that in writing then in case a happy dot man pulls me over or in for an inspection. You allways have to C Y A out there.
