ok. it turned out to be the wiring harness is bad. they also found a broken bolt on the riser. and while looking the motor over they found the water pump was leaking out the weep hole. so now its turned into a day and a half job. 20 hours on the water pump. seriously...what was the designers thinking when they came up with these motors? who came up with the idea to put the pump inside the front of the motor so that it would have to be torn apart to replace?

Those water pumps do suck, but 20 hours is ridiculous. Last one I did was less than 8.

i sure hope its only 8 hours rate. that would be a lot better than the $3600 i was quoted.

20 hours on the water pump is a rip off. I had my pump replaced and it was 6 hours labour and $1200 for the cat reman pump. $1800 out the door. Don't mean to be a butthead but you were warned to have tha wiring checked and replaced. It's the most common problem to re-occur after IVA repairs. I had mentioned it as it happened to me. Well live and learn I guess. You should have noticed the weep hole leaking yourself. It's impossible to miss as its in plain sight.

geeesss w9...give me a break! its my truck not urs. can u look at a water leak and tell just how long its been leaking? it may have just started. yea i saw people talking it may be the wiring but then they also said it could be just the ivas. u may have not wanted to be a butthead but thats where u went...if i made ya mad ill sell ya the truck then u have every right to chew butt!!
kw9's rock Thanks this. -
When I read your post I just wrote without thinking and you're right I did come off as a butthead, sorry.
I own the same spec truck as you except mines a 2005 model and I know how frustrating it can be to constantly be chasing down re-occurring problems and just wanted to try to help you avoid the same issues I had.
Hopefully no hard feelings.25(2)+2 Thanks this. -
nope its ok...the mechanic showed me why it was such a long job. almost the whole right side of the motor had to come off as did most of the front. there is a huge bracket thats goes over the water pump that holds the pulleys for the serpentine belt. the job took only 16 hours not 20 cause they didnt have to remove the oil cooler. and im sorry to say u may have gotten ripped off on ur water pump. i got mine for $800. i thought $1200 for a reman was a little high.
kw9's rock Thanks this.
