Thanks Y2K, that makes perfect sense. I CAN up and down shift with no problem. I guess I will learn the splitter out on the road.

After a couple weeks you'll be float'n gears and split'n shifts all the time, double clutching will be mostly a thing of the past lol.
You'll get more shifting practice in a day than you did the whole time you were in school, there's nothing like get'n out there and do'n it to learn the ropes.

Hey there fellow former (and current) May drivers! Haven't been posting much (none) over the last few months. Had other fun things to do... I gave my notice mid-March, and turned my truck in at the Brooks yard April 16th. Flew home to Cali, wrapped some stuff up, packed my car and drove back up to Portland to resettle here. Just completed my first day with Harris Transportation out of Portland; a petroleum tanker job, home daily and 2 consecutive days min off per week. Nice folks, and even met Brian Harris, the 3rd gen owner. Small company, about 100 trucks all together, which is nice. Starting pay and benes will be pretty darn good, and in this segment of our industry will only go up. We'll see how I like it, but I'm happy with the challenge and danger! :yes2557:

I will say that I am glad to have started with May, and have no regrets. Left on good terms, and though I don't imagine I'll ever go back, that bridge is not burned. I will continue to recommend them for new drivers, and have a little smile when I see May wagons roll by. My only advice to newbies is this; keep your nose (record) clean, and this world of trucking is your Oyster! I did not meet the preferred 2 year experience requirement at Harris, but my driving record, CSA score, and job history are all very good, so they took me on! Bumped my salary up by maybe $15k to start, plus great benes and paid time off... Worth the effort to remain clean and healthy (they have pretty stringent physical health/fitness requirements...) So, all you brand-newbies out there, start with May, do your job well, and there are very many excellent opportunities awaiting you...

Cheers Fellas (and Ladies, of course!)

I was wondering where you went.

Fuel hauler? Good for you. Not my cup of tea though. Good luck!

Thanks Scooter. That is what I heard.

Any tips about orientation or anything else associated with the Denver terminal and or May?

I am going to leave my car there, you think that is ok?
