it seems as though a lot of OTR companies allow it. Restrictions may vary though.. such as age, time on the truck etc etc

Many carriers will require you to pay extra insurance . Also keep in mind many shippers and receivers will not allow passengers on the property . Those that do may require safety equipment like glasses , steel toed shoes , hard hats , etc .

Something we considered when my wife was going to go with me . Some customers require a CDL to enter the property . CDL's are required in certain sections of truckstops . To get around problems of carriers not allowing CDL holding passengers or DOT questioning whether a passenger might be a driver , what if the passenger just had a Class B or C CDL ?

The company I just hired on with requires 60 days experience after training, then pay about $30 per month in Rider Insurance. The rider can't have a CDL (as noted earlier to avoid issues with the rider driving the truck).

Ask the recruiter whether the company has a Rider program and what the cost is and the limitations.

On another note some companies allow pets, but they also have requirements for a deposit and other conditions as well.

Most companies allow riders and pets in an attempt to keep their drivers happy and driving.

Since you mentioned in another post that you're looking at CRE, I can tell you this (based on 2009/2010 policy.)

If you're a company driver, no passengers.

If you lease, yes you can have passengers. Even if they hold a CDL. You just fill out a form with the passengers basic info that can be faxed to your terminal from any truck stop.

By the way, the Rider Policy was one of the key determining factors regarding which company I selected. I can't wait to have my wife on the road with me, and she's looking forward to being with me as well. The kids are gone, and I'll be able to share the experience of seeing this beautiful country with a beautiful woman...

... with a little home cooking bonus. :D

I know with Central Ref you can have Passengers day 1 of your upgrade after training. You just have to get all riders approved with HR and they must be 10 years of age or older.
