I was offered a job pulling PODS for CRST at 37cpm averaging 2700-3100 miles a week. This job is solo and I've been told all I would have to do is throw straps over the Pods and go from dc to dc..Has anyone ever done this and is the cpm good for starting out flatbedding?? Prior to this job offer I've been on Caterpillar Dedicated with CRST with a codriver but that was a nightmare so not doing the team thing anymore..Money and miles were awesome just could not and will not trust a complete stranger with my life anymore..thanks...

Flatbed would be the Malone side if we're thinking of the same CRST. They are L/O and O/Ops. I never heard of any runs pulling POD cans around but if they have em then I would really doubt that one could get 2700-3100 miles a week in running solo. I would say you would be closer to 1800-2200 miles at the .37cpm at the very best. Good luck in whatever you do but keep looking even if you take this job.

CRST has company flats for their dedicated and solo drivers Volvo driver. They are on dedicated accounts. If it is all I think it is and thats thrwoing straps and chians, its easy. I would say go for it. Keep in mind @ 37cpm you will only make $700-900 averaging 2700-3100miles after taxes out.

Throwing straps would be a cake walk no doubt but I honestly say they are blowing smoke with the 2700-3100 mile statement. So more like 1800-2200 miles per week on average at the .37cpm would be bringing home more likely $550-$600 per week if all 2200 miles paid the $.37/cpm. The thing is most likely what the op will find out after running a few weeks will be only bringing home $400 or so per week which then would make throwing straps a crappy job that doesn't pay worth a crap as to why I stated even if you take this job make sure you keep looking elsewhere.

You have a fair observation volvodriver. One other thing; Get this all in WRITING if you pursue it. I capped writing as CRST could change their mind. If flatbed is what you want, there are good companies that hire in your area. If your tired of CRST in general, then let us know and we'll help you out.

I've run pods in the past before they got cheap and it would be easy to rack up big miles doing it dedicated, and the warehouse are usually open great hours including weekends. I'd say go for it driver as .37 cpm for a rookie is great these days.

I agree with fortycalglock, Get it in writing. The pay and the miles in writing. So that way you know what is what.
Got a friend of mine over at my former carrier.
He was going to leave and then they promise him this great run. Be home more less hassles.
Well nothing in writing and he has only pulled 1 ld. for that account. They keep giving him the run around and oh we need you for this or that.
He's not making much money either and is thinking hard about just pulling the plug and go else where

This seems like a set up from teaming, so I would say go for it. .37cpm not bad especially for newbie. I try to stay away from pods bc there cheap, but if being paid milage then wtf. I have also unloaded on Sunday hauling pods. Good luck.

I would have a ball. Three straps and I'm gone.

The mega-fleets have been all over the Pods. I've seen a few of the 53' van giants pulling flats with Pods. The rates are down to crappy van rates but that doesn't matter to a cpm driver. Gonna be busy in the summer and slow in the winter due to more people move in the summer.
Accounts always change so it won't last forever.

Made some good rates when they cleared all the leftover Pods off the Gulf after Katrina faded away.
