Any suggestions if I go to L.A.? I may have a load headed out there and I think i can get my step out of there the next day with a container.

I may avoid the load, just 'cause it's Cali, but the load pays 2.20 a mile from KY.

yeah, take the first load out of there, 1.40 will be the rate if that. and pay the 100 dollar pull fee out of the port and be done with it, thenwhen ya get back make an appt. at the psychiatrist to cure you of wanting to go there to begin with. ask how many trucks are already there , if you dare.

I see loads coming out for $1.70 or so, but when I get there, things may be different. I talk to Mercer drivers that get right out and others sit for a week.

We have been having pretty good luck out in Cali this year so far.
I have been there twice, and had a good turnaround, and one of our other trucks just went out at over $2pm, and came back with a legal load for @$1.90 IIRC (both to the truck).
That is RGN freight, and no ports etc, so take it for what it's worth in your own circumstances.

I'm going with a Dynasys APU, seems to be the best bet for my truck, in-house financing with a 3 yr unlimited warranty, and everyone I know who has one is very happy with it.
