Hey everybody, I'm in CDL School right now I got 5 weeks left (just started this past monday)...I've been looking into companies that I would like to start with and what I would want to do to start my career. And I want to get into the Tanker part of truck driving and get into hauling crude oil. Now Schneider National will hire me right out of school and train me on Tankers and put me to work but its OTR, I don't have a problem with doing that to pay my dues but I really want to get into the Oil Fields and Schneider National has contracts in those also but they are my fall back really.....So I've been doing research (I live in Houston, TX)....and I've seen that Sunoco Logistics is in the hauling crude oil business which I would love to start out my career with and stick with it and on their website and job offers they have they say you can be a graduate from an accredited school. So I was wondering if anyone knows a little more about them than what I can get off their site, and if anyone knows if they would hire me right out of school with my X endorsement and TWIC. If they do it would be perfect for me they have an opening in Corpus Christi and they get a Hourly wage and commission and I would be home just about every night, and on top of all that its hauling crude oil and I could start my career off doing what I want to do right away. So does anyone have any more information on Sunoco Logistics or share your thoughts to help a newbie please :)

P.S. It says they want a clean driving record is that just for CDL A? I have a speeding ticket I got a year ago in my personal car..and would serving in the Army help me at all (I was 11B Infantry) or do Trucking companies not care about that unless you were a truck driver in the service.

    Thank You in advance

    Jordan

I'l' let somebody else answer about Sunoco. But being a veteran will always help. If they don't honor veterans you don't want to work for them anyway.

They do care about all tickets mainly in last 3 yrs. If you were 10+ over speed limit it looks REAL bad. You might get on with them fueling equipment on oil sites. Lots of the tanker companies have guys doing that. Every couple of hours on a frac job they pull hose and fuel up all the motors on all the different machines. Sure they do the same on drilling etc.

I'm going to give them a call next week or so and see if they can give me more information and I guess if it doesn't work out I can always fall back to schneider national and get my foot in the door that way. But yea my speeding ticket I was like 6 over I think, I know I wasn't 10 over.

So is there anybody out there that knows a little bit about Sunoco :)

Thanks for the posts so far!

I work for them. The site where you saw the posting explains the pay well. I'm not in the corpus area so I'm not sure what you can expect to haul but remember that the pay is commission. Your work ethic will determine your pay. In my area there's as many loads as you can handle which equals good pay if you work hard

So you just get paid on commission?? On the site I looked at it said base hourly rate of pay plus commission, I wouldn't have a problem if its just commission, I'll work my ### off for them if they were to give me a shot hauling crude right outa school...hold on I'm gonna pull up the information on the site I saw and post it.....and please give me more info on them! How do you like working for them, what location are you working at, what is a normal day like with them, you think they will still look at me if I have a speeding ticket from a year ago(was like 6 over in my personal car), how do you like the company, etc, etc, etc.....don't leave anything out!:)

The hourly pay is for wait time, meetings etc. I'm in San Angelo & like it so far. They like military vets. As far as a first trucking job you can't beat it

So your getting paid while your waiting to unload/load and all of that? and do you have like a number I can reach them at? They have a few numbers on their site for like regional offices, and I don't know which one I should call lol. And yeah I'm going to try and get on with them so I can start my career off hauling crude...and if you don't mind....can you give me an average of what you make a week??

If I can keep up the pace I'm on I'll make 80k. To do that I'm working as many 6 day weeks as I can & picking up extra loads.
As far as contact info all I've got is my region but I'm sure if you call a main number they'll put you in touch with the right recruiter

Alright. Well thanks for the information you've given me! I'm going to give them a call next week and see if I can land a job before I get out of school, or atleast get my name out there.
