The 793C (second post first pic) has almost a 500k lbs payload.

This is at a copper mine and a coal mine both are pit mining operations but the coal mine has expanded to some underground

I used to haul fuel into the copper mine at Morenci Az. The tractor and fuel trailer I drove looked like a Tonka toy when passing a haul truck, they usually passed us. I lost traction, one time, going up a hill because the "gravel" for the haul road was large rocks.

I hope haul trucks have power steering! Hee hee hee!!! :biggrin_2556: How fast do haul trucks go, and how many gears do they have?

Questions like only girl can ask....!! LOL! Here we go!

I imagine a haul truck has to be as powerful as a locomotive to get going, but trains only need maintain momentum once moving and don't maneuver suddenly because they are on a track. A haul truck would have to be powerful, but also deal with uneven terrain, sudden starts/stops/turns, and have loads which are susceptible to shifting (and a shifting load complicates everything I just mentioned above). So, do haul trucks have a few low gears, a lot of low gears, or are they kinda split like an 18-speed? Are they full-time, four-wheel drive? How fast do they go?

I don't really know much about "cubic engine sizes". I know the most powerful truck I've ever driven was a 2004 Peterbuilt 379 (long-nose) with a CAT engine and 18-speed transmission. I didn't drive it very much, and only under close supervision, but I know it was very powerful and remember how it felt in the mountains... So, is a haul truck powered like this one Peterbuilt, or like two or three of these Peterbuilts together in one engine compartment?

I can't resist asking.... what kind of fuel mileage does a haul truck get?

This isn't Big Iron Haul Trucks, but I think you guys enjoy this video (originally posted by TTR member in Questions From New Drivers forum). At first it looks like a tractor hauling an over-sized load rounding a corner... but then it keep coming, and coming, and coming... and then you see tractor pushing too! Way cool video!

Too bad we can't hear the CB chatter/communications between the drivers, pilot cars, and other people involved in the move!
I inserted link, and tried to insert video... hopefully, one or other will work? :biggrin_25525:
