Class a Is defiantly a must, but besides that, it's really a personal preference. I hauled for us xpress for my first company, not bad, I got experience there. They have a pretty tough rider policy, and the claim xx cents a mile (32 I think in 2010) but the realality is its on a "sliding pay scale". So as a company driver you generally want long hauls 1000 miles or more type of work, but at us xpress the longer the haul, the lower the pay lol. So sy for instance you and your husband pull a 1100 mile load the pay rate will go down to something like .26 cents a mile and that's not fair, believe me. Hope this helps! Don't know much about knight, most of their drivers I see seem to be happy I suppose

Knight and USX are similar in trainee pay, with USX being a couple bucks more. The Knight training period is 4-6 weeks according to their website. USX is 2-3 weeks.
Knight's starting pay is around 32 cpm. With USX after training you and your husband will get paid 38 cpm for 8 weeks. then it's bumped up to 48 cpm if you have hazmat, which you definitely want to get. With USX a couple can make close to $100,000 their first year if they are serious. -
If you and your husband plan on teaming when you get your CDL, hands down US Xpress. I ve talked to several of their team drivers they seem very happy. I would call US Xpress and see if they offer CDL Training or check around where you live and see if they have a state funded CDL school

US Xpress doesn't offer training, but like most offer reimbursement for what you payed for school. I went from Werner to USX and to me USX was best. The DM listens to you and tries to help and the training program is short compared to most companies. Plus if you and hubby team you more than likely end up in a new truck vs. a used up one.

Stay away fron USuckpress, a majority of their Trans-Con Loads that used to go to Teams years ago are put on the Rail now, which means Slim Pickings for Team Drivers.

Knight does have a training division. Squire Transportation. They can help both you and your husband get your CDL A license and endorsements if you want. I don't know much about the division but it is set up to make sure you both can handle things once you graduate. Don't know much about USX. Schneider also had a good training program years ago, not sure of them now either. Just keep looking around, there is a lot of info on this site plus students, plus experienced drivers, even the moderators can help! Good luck in what you two choose to do!

Vinsanity how can you say all that information is incorrect?? With a negating statement like that you just lost all credibility. But anyways man, look, she said her husband doesn't HAVE a class A, and neither does she, so what makes you think they're just going to magically hop into a team truck and be eating ten dollar meals at TA?? Sounds like you ate to many of them brownies off the desert line!! Now ksouthard of course the team pay is different if that's what y'all are planning to do, it's not the greatest buts manageable I'd say. One thing I really didn't like at US xpress though is they have different Fleet Managers assigned to you according to your location in the country, so that means about 6 different fleet managers plus all their night time guys and swing shift and weekend people. That's a MAJOR disconnection from the driver and makes things way less human. [JUST MY TWO CENTS] oh yeah your husband and you, if you chose to drive as well, will have to go do about a 1month or 2 OTR driving with a "trainer" at Us xpress before they would ever hand you the keys to your own. Lol don't worry everyone has to do that if your coming into a company with a year plus Class A experience!!
