How is fuel a "fixed" cost?

When you pull up to a pump can you change the price to what you want?

No, but you can choose where to fuel. Optimizing your fuel purchases is but one way to control costs.

But that aside ... fixed costs are costs that are incured even if the truck does not move, costs that are constant and do not change such as truck payment, insurance etc ...

Variable costs are costs that change such as per mile fees for tax, fuel etc ...

You really need to understand the "business" of trucking better if you want to be profitable. Ill be glad to help you if I can, but it will take work on your part.

This is absolutely correct. You should know what your average fuel mileage is. An average is not "between" this and that, it's ONE number. Fuel is your biggest expense, if you don't know how to control that cost, you are doomed.

Using your own numbers lets look at your fuel costs like this.
You say you get "between" 5.5 and 6.0
So you can see how BIG the difference is is that range ...
lets use $3.99 per gallon as an example

at 5.5 mpg you would have spen $83,082 on fuel
at 6.0 mpg you would have spent $76,158 on fuel

    That nearly $7,000.00 difference!!!

Sorry dude, but there is a whole lot more to it than that. Please tell me you are not paying pump price either? Are you?

Seriously, Im not trying to "go there" as you put it. Im just trying to help you. Obviously something in your business plan isnt working. You either want to fix it, or you just want a shoulder to cry on. Which is it? There are people here that will be glad to help you, but you have to want to be helped.
