Funny...because my benefits over at my new home in the Pumpkin Patch are still outstanding and low cost:

    Medical
    Dental
    Basic Vision provided for free
Vision materials (eyeglasses, contacts, etc.) coverage
    CDL Protector Legal plan
    Family Legal Plan
AFLAC (which saved my butt earlier this year when, for the first time ever, I was hurt at work...broke my wrist when I woke up at 4am and forgot I was on the top bunk and went to "hop" out of bed to turn the alarm off. Had to have a surgery and a plate put in my wrist. The company and their WC carrier were OUTSTANDING. I was allowed to make the decisions on when and where surgery took place. The company flew me home rather than putting me on a bus. Once I arrived home, I just faxed the hospital documentation to AFLAC and they sent me a check in less than 7 days.)
    Free Basic Life Insurance
Optional Additional Life Insurance at very low cost
Discounts on auto and home insurance
    Discounts with cell phone carriers
Discounts at a number of major retailers

When I've had to travel to go pick up a truck, the company has provided a rental car instead of sticking me on a bus.

Sorry Romans...but for me, moving over here from KLLM was like walking out of the ghetto straight into Beverly Hills. Maintenance is hassle free, fast, competent and courteous. Office and support staff are impeccably courteous and professional. At the gate to the terminal I am asked my driver number and, once given, I am referred to by name. I can walk into dispatch and access our training staff, my dispatcher, dispatch supervisors, safety staff, regulatory....anybody I need to see. We have a set three level procedure for resolving issues and for appealing a decision...and this system includes a peer review panel that includes both drivers and office staff.
We have cafeterias in our terminals with both hot meals and deli selections. A driver services desk with a full range of services. Ample shower and laundry facilities. A company store with a wide range of merchandise - apparel (shirts, jackets, sweats, coats, gloves hats), DVD movies, audio books, office supplies, novelty items, duffel bags, personal hygiene items, window screens for your truck windows, truck stop guides, safety vests, safety glasses....just about anything you might need.

We can buy our work boots through the company for $25/pair. We get generous short haul pay. I don't have to fight for layover or detention...it's automatic. Company pays for CAT scale tickets via your fuel card...no more having to pay out of pocket and waiting to be reimbursed like KLLM. We have the latest, state of the art technology in our trucks - from the qualcomms with WorkFlow and WiFi access, to the collision warning systems to the systems that provide A/C without having to idle your truck (not on all trucks yet but this is in process) to the Webasto bunk heaters for the winter months.

I didn't have to drive a beater for several years before being trusted with a good, late model truck. I've been with them less than a year and I'm in a Cascadia with less than 220,000 miles on it. The radio and sound system in this thing is killer! No CD player...I have SD card slots. I can load TONS of CD's on one SD card, plug it in, hit "random" and not hear the same song twice in one day. I can also plug my computer into it, pop in a DVD and have awesome surround sound while watching my movies.

I still find myself having to occasionally apologize to my dispatcher for freaking out on her, because from my years with KLLM I got so used to having to fight tooth and nail for even the simplest things and I sometimes slip back into that paranoia and "combat ready" mode. Then she reminds me that, hey, it's OK, we are professionals here at the big orange on-time machine...we've got this handled.

So, sorry...but you can keep KLLM. But when you want to be treated like a valued and respected member of the company you work for....shoot me a PM and I'll hook you up with a ticket to trucking paradise.

The Big orange yeah right, I have to fight for my detention and layover pay I am driving a 2005 with 7878771 on it and shakes something terrible when I get to 45 mph, I am governed at 62mph and the horsepower is cut back, I catch Hell going up hills and you can kiss your bonus good bye if you do over 60mph, they lie about getting you home and they make you run around your house to get a load and you better not want to go home without one. They say you are regional (southeast) but you be in NY and Ohio with no extra pay. I feel that it is what you make of it some may have a good experience but there is all ways someone getting shafted somewhere.

KLLM is still crappy! KLLM pays 0.32 cents per mile with no raise again this year for company drivers. I have never met a KLLM lease driver who is happy with the KLLM lease program. Lease drivers pay all the truck expenses and KLLM keeps almost all the profit until he quits then another sucker takes over the truck for about a month. The lease program has ruined all the KLLM company driver trips. Lease drivers can turn down trips so KLLM company drivers get the trash can trips like short-hauls, mountain routes, snow routes, going to customers that are known for the longest wait times and no drop hooks. Company drivers are forced to do swaps with lease drivers near customer locations so company drivers do all the waiting and lease drivers keep moving and paying the truck expenses. KLLM has no safety bonus pay. No idle bonus pay. No APU's and no inverters allowed in company trucks. When I arrived at one of the company yards and asked the shop to repair my qualcomm during my time off they said I must drive the truck to a repair shop across town and begin my time off after I spend a few hours finishing the repair of their equipment. KLLM does not pay for actural miles driven. Only paid zip code to zip code mileage (household movers guide miles). KLLM company drivers are paid only $25 for some trips that are less than 100 miles and you still spend hours waiting at the KLLM customer. No detention pay if the KLLM driver arrives late to a customer even though not the driver's fault. KLLM does not pay mileage for driving the truck from your last customer to your time-off location. KLLM holiday bonus pay for staying on the road during the Xmas and New Year holiday is a joke. The holiday period paychecks are the same as all the paychecks during the year. More customers are closed and miles are less during the holiday period. The bonus just makes up the difference. It does not add money to a paycheck. The bonus just makes up for the loss of miles since it is slow. KLLM will take your new company truck away every 3 to 4 months and lease it to a lease driver. You will be awake all night during the process of moving your stuff from your truck to a storage locker and then at dawn starting your ride across the country to recover an abandoned truck that needs service or won't even start.

KLLM is a dead in company. They only cater to Lease Purchase. Company drivers are treated like trash. I would never work for those bums.
