You answered your own question . Retread them and use them as drives . Tires can have wear other than the tread . How many blown tires do you see with plenty of tread left ?
One point though is fuel economy . The less tread the better fuel economy . Tires that are half worn or a little better get best fuel economy . Fleets can get maximum use out of steer tires by putting them on trailers when they are over 150,000 miles but O/O's may not have this option .

Red seems about spot on. Guy wanted to complain and wife probably done hung up on him.
I do agree trucking sucks a lot of the time.
Amazing most here should go get a counseling degree. -
I'm one of them guys that don't push my luck whenever I think they need to be changed I change them yes I could go longer on them but I run super singles on my drives and don't take a chance on being shut down because of the tire discoloring or one flat spot just change it!!!
-
LOL. U do know that this is an OPEN forum, right? Its not a CB radio. There is a difference. Be safe out there drivers.
-
I agree with you. People love to send a bigger cheque to some other guy in order to avoid sending a smaller one to the government. Haven't quite figured it out.

In all the years of being an O/O,it is always close to a ''1/3''...That's it..Last year i did 150,000 and in the end my NET was 62,000...A bit more than the 1/3..Truck Main went down last year and treated me good.
I have said for years that owning a truck is only buying a job..Why people say they are getting ''rich'' is beyond me.We do not get rich in the O/O business.WE MAKE A LIVING...
Where i do ''get rich'' is my freedom and the fact i work 7 months a year.I am home all the time and enjoy my personal life and my health.I enjoy my family and my friends.I DO NOT want the ''norm'' to be a telephone relationship..I am not interested in being a company slave driving down the road in a sweat shop living like an animal for 800.00 a week and never home..
My home is worth 150,000 and it's paid for.My 2 Harly's are paid for.My truck and equipment is paid for..All on an O/O wage..I have over 20k in a maint account and another 71,000 in savings and retiremant accounts...The rest is ''hidden''..
I would never have the beautiful life i have today if it was not for the O/O side of the business and the teachers who taught me...I am so BLESSED to have a wonderful life...I remember the days of ''living'' in my truck and i had nothing what so ever. All i had was my truck and Prostitute filled, drug infested motel rooms when i was off duty...I hope GOD continues to bless me and i never go back to those early days...
With that i hope everyone has a wonderful week..I just got home from a 3 day run and i am taking 4 days off to enjoy life..I hope you all enjoy your life this week.It is to SHORT,not to enjoy..scythe08, Corporal_Clegg, yotaman and 3 others Thank this. -
It sucks but who is to blame? i think we all need to look in the mirror to see. some more than others.
I find it funny how most people never look in the mirror and just blame "joe blows trucking scam inc".
I have had some misfortunes. but i learned from them all and changed myself.
life is only 10% what happens to you and 90% how YOU react to it! -
My guess is the business kept anywhere between $35k and $45k. Am I close?
-
The OP had previously posted " $37,000 went in the bank "

The OP does have a point trucking does suck for two main reasons: 1) Too much overhead 2) Too much responsibility
The best transportation related business to get into is freight brokerage. Think about it how much overhead does your average broker working out of his basement have? A telephone and internet bill and paper for the copy machine. Look at CH Robinson they make roughly $500 million a year in profit and don't own a single truck.
They don't pay for equipment, fuel, repairs, tires and don't have to deal with driving, DOT, scales, CSA scores, CARB emissions, etc, etc. This man tells it well:
