that's the way I prefer to do things from the office side also. I want their to be a record, if I'm wrong I want to learn the right way. If I'm right I also want to have a record of it to protect me.
Is my dispatcher in the wrong, or was I?

That's why when ever I get a phone call deal, I send a follow up email.
With a subject matter that says, per our phone conversation.
It's called c.y.a. -
I love dispatchers, I feed them to safety.
The faster I move you, the more $ I make. I was Safety, it costs less to be safe than sorry.

"Night disbatch".....there's the problem right there....add the word "weekend"...and you're wishing you were anywhere else but in that truck...

You did the right thing. Supply chain side, if a truck has no cargo, it has no cargo, to lie about a loaded cargo (for those who don't know, every trailer you hook up to your truck is monitored by the feds) that is non-existant, when records are later pulled on transported goods, showing a loaded trailor when there was none, delivered to a location empty, and supplied by that location, it makes ""HEY FEDS LOOK AT ME!!!" signs post all over it.
1. What was in the trailor being transported from point A to Point B?
2. Where were the contents "dropped off" while enroute?
3. What "businesses" off the charts is your company supporting/supplying that are undocumented?
4. WHY is your company supporting third party beneficiaries that are undocumented, and why?
By mislabeling trailors, forging data, and wrongfully allocating equipment on paper, puts your company in a hot spot. The first time, may not be much, second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. FBI will review records, IRS will audit financial records, etc. etc. God help management if a pattern is discovered, even by accident with no relation to one another. If it's localized to that one dispatcher, that one dispatcher and drivers who are frequently responsible, get to have one on one talks with feds. If there are HAZMAT Placards on any vehicle or trailor being moved, ATF, FBI, the EPA, if it crossed borders in Canada or Mexico or off loaded at a dock or shipyard for over seas transport/reciept/storage, then Border Patrol, ICE, NSA and CIA get to be involved.
Situations escalate, all that garbage over an idiot fumbling with numbers and data.
That dispatcher is by all means, heavily ignorant.
You did the right thing. EVERYTHING transported by Truck Rail, Water, and Air is monitored by the feds. Whether if it's a truck loaded with tampons or uranium, it's federally monitored. There isn't a truck on the highway that isn't monitored. Weight STations assist with that. If management gives you crap for not following dispatch orders on that, find yourself a new company/supply house. That company is treading on thin ice screwing with the feds. Whether intentionally or not.
