I so agree with you tip--all people aren't meant to "train". You definitely need a little people skills and lots of patience to do that. Its a lot more than just trying to teach someone the way to do things.

Six months is right. No prior exp is required. Bucks I think you are recalling the "Good ol' Days" there. I almost fell over when I heard the six months thing. Roger seems to feel he can give you a script to read to a student driver and if you just do that he will be a perfect driver. The experience you bring to the job is pointless in that we are supposed to teach the way roger wants it taught. I haven't counted yet but how many blanks are provided for you to sign in the workbook. Why are you signing the book? To make sure you do it his way.

How many of the "1500+" drivers have been there over 1 (one) year?
And of that number, how many will be there after another year? You wouldn't recognize the name of the company I work for because they are small, however it is ,so far, everything it said it would be. Sure, occasional discrepancies between driver and dispatch, but no smoke and mirror bonus promises, no lies about pay, and helpful people are there for me when I need it. They just don't advertise like Mr. Roehl does. They don't have to replace drivers very often.
But, if you're happy that's really all that matters. I just hate to see other newcomers to the industry get sucked in to the Red Void like I did. I stated earlier, if you need training, get it and get out and don't expect anything else. Expect 28-32000 actual pay. Anything else will be a bounty. And if newbies do make it to their own truck, don't expect that "friendly and helpful dispatch", because its not there. Most of the dispatchers can't even start a truck, much less understand what you need when out. And they replace them, for one reason or another, more than they replace the toilet paper in the drivers lounge.
In closing, get trained, get out, and get on with life, 'cause there isn't a
"life outside the truck", or inside the truck, at Roehl.

I would say more than a third of the drivers here have been here over a year.
Homeboy, we get you didn't have a good time here. Some of us are getting paid well, getting miles and have a good relationship with our DSR's. If you found a good job outside of here, then great. Good on ya, but quit bashing our job because unlike you, there are a bunch of people here who do like Roehl, and even though they do have growing pains, they also have a lot of potential for growth in the future. Something a lot of "small" companies don't have or want.
    Have a nice day.

    roehl929 Thanks this.

If his experience at Roel sucked, then why do you have more of a right to say how good it is for you then he has to say how bad it was for him?

Answer= You don't, so just let him say his peace in the bad truck company forum and you can make your case for why you think they are good in the other forum.

Personally I would prefer a outfit that treats it's drivers equally like the one I now work at, then have to hope I am one of the lucky ones that is allowed to be successful at your average OTR company's like Roel.

And their big advertisements profusely distributed all over the country begging for drivers would suggest they are only average despite how they may be treating you currently.

I guess I heard that! How dare me tell my experience on the forum and the advertisements and those recruiters ( all of this a first for me) for others to view, hopefully to educate them on the reality of your "big" company. I went in believing what was said on this forum and found it all to be lies. I am merely trying to tell a truthful experience from a man who went in excited and came out extremely disappointed. That is all.
    Have a nice day!

Let me say something here. I also feel it is wrong to make negative comments against Roehl, even if you have driven for them. :) They are probably as good as it gets among the large carriers. The issues I had were 1 - me, and 2 - large carriers in general. I still believe for most people Roehl is one of the better places to start. I am just too old and set in my ways to accept anything other than exactly what I am looking for.
Good luck to my RDTC buddies out there!
I am looking to hear from you guys!
    respects,
    Dennis

I am not saying, nor did I say, you don't have a right to your opinion. However, you have beaten this horse to death.
We get it! You don't like Roehl! I do, now I'm done. Have at it.

Is my repeated opinion any different than you constantly offering yours? Or are you only "drumming up more business" by encouraging others to become your students?
    I'm done. Your turn

And by the way........the reality of the BIG company is YOUR reality, not everybody else's.
There seems to be a whole lot of people at Roehl who do good and some who do not so good. There is good and bad at every place. I hope you don't see that at your current company, but keep it in the back of your mind. It is trucking after all.
