if anyone has their dispatcher who tells you to get going if your tired or sick,
quote this FMCSA rule to them, and see what they say.

There is actually still a coca leaf extract in Coca-Cola today, although it is cocaine free. There is a single company in America that makes it. I'm not sure on the exact details but they also make cocaine which is occasionally used as a local anesthetic in dental procedures for people who are allergic to novacaine or whatever it is they normally use.
Totally a tangent there, just one of the many completely useless facts I know.CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
Dang I must be older than dirt then!

There's been rumours floating around for years. Most sources say the cocaine was removed from the coca leaves in 1903 after a lawsuit was filed. They said Coca-Cola was associated with black crime back then is why they cracked down. There was an article in the 1903 New York Tribune about that. They use to call the wagons that delivered Coke "dope wagons". Cocaine was made illegal in 1914 so I know that Snope's article is inaccurate. Coke keeps the recipe in their headquarters in Atlanta in a vault. They claim the recipe hasn't been changed since it's inception but I guess removing the cocaine from the coca leaves could be understood as not changing the recipe. It still has the extract from coca leaves. I'm pretty sure that company that removes the cocaine from the extract is in NJ and uses the cocaine in other pharmaceuticals like Novacaine. But since there are trademark secrets only a handful know the real truth.
I remember back in 1980 was the only real time they changed Coke. They had the "Classic Coke" and then the "New Coke" which was nothing but allowing manufacturers to replace the sugar with a cheaper corn sweetener. It didn't last but 2-3 months. -
So the Teamsters coming up with log books in the late 30's was because of what? Because I'm pretty sure it was to get companies to stop FORCING their drivers to run way past their fatigue level. I could care less you aint been driving but 0-1 year but come on?!?!?!

Some people need someone to tell them what, and what not to do, and for some reason, those same people are the ones that want to tell everyone else what to do. They don't trust their judgement when applied to themselves, but insanely believe that it is good enough for everyone else.
There is a market solution to trucking safety. I suspect the horrors of trucking without heavy regulations are overblown. What percentage of trucks in any given fleet could be wrecked per year to reach the risk tolerance threshold of the owners of the company and their insurance company? How much risk is acceptable to the driver, and how big is the gap between the risk threshold of the owner and the operator? Trucking may not be for people who have low thresholds same as snake charming isn't for someone afraid of being snake bit. -
Welcome to trucking kid. Where you WILL get that load there on time. You've got a lot to learn.

I just wish they would do away with the 70 hour rule, extend the 14 to 18 hours, and driving 11 hours to 14
