You're working for the lowest of the low. I'm surprised they're only taking 1%. Seems you're getting off easy.
crb and road_runner Thank this. -
The carrier (England) is responsible to pay for the damage their truck did to some one Else's property. This was preventable meaning the driver (you) were at fault. Why should England not expect you to help them pay for the damages since it was you who is responsible? The bigger question is why they come up with a percentage number for a fixed number of weeks. They have an amount, they have determined what percentage you are going to pay (100% ?), they should deduct until such time your portion of the damage cost is met. Maybe it will be 17 weeks, maybe it will be 12 weeks, depends on how hard you run.
Not knowing how much damage was done, it's hard to say if you're getting screwed or getting off easy, but since you're still being given a chance and not let go, I'd say you're probably getting off light. -
Lets do some simple math. Lets say you're running 3K miles a week for 17 weeks. Your check before taxes will be $360. Lets assume they deduct their 1% from your gross. That would be $3.60 per week. After 17 weeks you will have had $61.20 deducted. Personally I'd just write a check to England and call it a day.

12 cents a mile????? Why so low? Swift starts brand new rookies out at twice that amount.
One_tooth_wonder Thanks this. -
He is getting screwed no matter what the damage.
Doesn't C.R. England have insurance on their trucks? So they turn the bill for the damage in to their Insurance company. Since they pay so much for insurance already, their rates will not go up because of one incident. So in the long run, C.R.England suffers no loss, yet charges the driver? That is a bunch of garbage.
Now on the other hand, if you were getting paid a 1% bonus for safety, and lost it for 17 weeks, that would be legal I think. But taking money out of a driver's pay to cover a cost that the insurance covered is illegal, and immoral.hotrod1018, One_tooth_wonder and c64basic Thank this. -
I don't think they can dock your pay for an accident. That's why they carry insurance.
Check your new hire paperwork and see if there's any info about it in there. If not then speak up about it. If it comes down to it go somewhere else.
.12 a mile is robbery. And if you're only making $360 a week running 3k miles you're wasting your time. You could literally make more working minimum wage at 40hrs a weekOne_tooth_wonder Thanks this. -
I thought phase 2 pay by mile was higher?... Good thing its only 10,000 miles u gotta do, u be done no time... Well if u get good loads

You get paid that rate for all miles the truck runs, not just the ones you drive so, it basically is the same as normal starting pay.
IIRC i made about $6-700 a week in phase 2

12 cents a mile makes me sad for you. Angry at all these people taking advantage of other people. Grrrrr
