I lost the safe driver designation on my license because of overweight tickets in FL, and my insurance on my personal vehicles went up as well.
Company figured it was cheaper to pay the tickets then make 2 trips when we were transferring material from 1 company warehouse to another. Averaged 1 overweight ticket a month for like 7 months.
Was always told the ticket goes to the company so I figured I didn't have anything to worry about,
Learned that lesson the hard way.

How can you get an overweight ticket in FL...? Aren't the tandems like 40k and steers non specified? unless you are over 80k?
-
In my case it, over weight on the steers twice, tandems the rest of the time. Of course this was in a straight truck rated at 53k or 56k. Cant remember it was several years ago. Tandem axle drywall boom truck, no drop axle on it. Most of my tickets were at the Punta Gorda scales, a few were random roadside stops, with portables scales.

Thanks for the info driver.

Hey, here's a novel idea to avoid problems at the scales - keep your weights legal! It's worked for me, 100%.flightwatch and paul_4lp Thank this.

It amazes me that with all of the horror stories, regulations, increased fines and FMCSA, drivers still continue to try and skirt the lawpaul_4lp Thanks this.

I don't go to Fl. much. I'm headed there now , though. Didn't know they were such sticklers on axel weights. You'd think , with all the produce coming out of there , top iced and all , they wouldn't be so bad.
And , yeah , it is your responsiblty to get it right.
Never heard of a "safe driver " option on a license . -
If all this is true about "safe driver" on a license and an insurance company threatening to cancel because of overweight tickets, I would be designated as one of the most dangerous person on the highway. In other words, all this is BS!!! I received more tickets for being overweight in the state of Florida than "Carter has pills". The people that work the lst weigh station going south on 1-95 got to know me by my first name, I pull on the scales and they would holler, "come on in Jim, you know the procedure". Get the ticket, 15 minutes delay, be on my way, cross the 2nd set going south on 1-95 pull on the scales, wave the ticket out the window and be on my way. No big deal. Pay the fine and forget about it. BTW, the fines in Florida for being overweight are some cheapest in the nation.
The company that I drove for had one driver that would dodge the Florida scales and it would take him 3 hours longer to get to where we were going and the company would throw in an extra $50, I didn't think that $50 was worth 3 hours of my time and stress of driving the back roads, plus the extra fuel and miles involved.paul_4lp Thanks this. -
I got overweight tickets in Florida. It's normally over gross since they allow 44,000 on your back axle. They don't allow that on all axles though it's 34K on the drives and 20K on a single and 12 on the steers. It don't show up on your record. I get overweight tickets nearly every week in Georgia. Sometimes 3 or 4. They don't show up in your driver record or Csa score. Alabama is a different story. They show up on your driving record and csa score. It don't even show overweight. It says , "failure to follow or obey dot rules and or regulations" .. Have a few of them also. Alabama tickets are huge $351.00 minimum.

Wow, never said anything about insurance company threatening to cancel. The "safe driver designation" was good for a 10-15% discount on the insurance. Also, many states have the safe driver designation. Not sure how many years you have to go without any tickets to get it.
As far as running legal goes, at the time this happened to me it was the middle of 2008-2009 and I had a choice to make. Drive the truck the way the company wanted or lose my job. unemployment rate in FL at the time was about 15 to 20%. Even DOT would say the ticket goes to the company and doesn't affect the driver, so I didn't really worry about.
Oh, and I'm not here here ranting about it, the OP asked a question, so I just stated a few facts to help them out.
