Greg was my instructor. If you came in and he had a group, one was me. Dan (Handymandan) is going to be training me I believe. He came through last week with his daughter.

How's the pay coming out of school? Home time the same as every where else?

There are 4 ways to get paid: per diem practical miles, per diem HHG miles, non per diem practical, and non per diem HHG. The Per Diem starts at .28 cpm with .10 being per diem, meaning you get .28 cpm and only taxed at .18 cpm...non per diem starts at .33 cpm and you get taxed on all of it. The way it comes out is non per diem makes a little more on base pay. Then you add in the bonuses that are reachable.

Performance bonus is as follows: .03 cpm for 2000 - 2499 miles per week; .04 cpm for 2500 - 2999 miles per week; or .05 cpm for anything over 3000 miles. You only get the performance bonus for your total mileage and it counts for ALL miles driven that week. (Example: 2500 per diem is .28 cpm PLUS .04 cpm = .32 cpm for all 2500 miles). Clear as mud? :)

Vacations: Per Diem gets 1 week after 6 months and 2 weeks after a year; non perdiem gets 1 week after the first year.

Safety Bonus: Per Diem gets .03 cpm. .02 of that is paid quarterly, the other .01 cpm at the end of the year. Non Per diem gets .01 cpm. I think it works out to .005cpm quarterly and .005 yearly or you get the whole thing at the end of the year. The safety bonus is the kicker. If you add all the bonuses and vacation time up and compare the per diem to non per diem, per diem wins. If you screw up and lose the safety bonus, non per diem pays more. So it comes down to this...how much is it worth for us to be safe?

Lastly, home time...when you go out with your trainer, his schedule is your schedule. My trainer said we would take a break about halfway through the 15000 miles (I figure 3-4 weeks out) After that, you can ask for home time after your first dispatch when you go back out. You have to give a 7 day notice. The company byline is out 7 days off 1-1/2, out 14 days, off 3; out 21 days, off 4-1/2. But, from what I have been told is you ask for every other weekend and you usually deliver on that Friday and come out again Monday.

    Hope that answers your questions.
