I have trained 3 people who are now solo. They all average over $650 per week after taxes. 4th one is in TnT phase now.

Its your group. You posted a link here. I guess you might even be a moderator (probably cleaned up the discussion) Private group so someone has to approve.

Quite a discussion i saw there.

You have Experiance in the hiring a trainee as a driver after upgrade. I notice you don't have much of a response to anything I said.

Feel free to explain your deal, but make sure you fully explain how much of that is a deal seperate of Prime.

You know, start with the basic deal signed with Prime, between the drivers. Then you can get into the additional pay structures. Don't forget the caveat of those additional monies.

    Clear things up here.

Start a "What to expect when a Prime Lease Op wants to hire you after training."

My situation was with a specific request from a driver that I sponsored into the company. She knew she would finish her training (she really didn't want to train with a female, but we were denied our request to train together) and she didn't want to drive by herself her first winter. I took her on my truck and paid her the standard .12/mile for the first few weeks. I bought our supplies from Wal-mart and meals when we had time to stop. This was January. Mid-February I bumped the pay up to .15/mile for the last few weeks. She drove my truck for two weeks in March at .36/mile while I took hometime. After that, she got her own truck and is now doing great.

Believe it or not I agree with you that people take advantage of trainees. The only reason I agreed with the above situation was because I brought her to Prime. I am not a team truck, and prefer PSD instruction. If I were running a team truck I would probably start at .18/mile and bump it up to .21/mile if the co-driver pulled their weight. I tried a 40% after expenses with a guy last summer for a month. That was not a good idea.

As far as the discussion in the facebook "secret" forum, I think I told the same story. I'll have to go back and read it again.

Let me get this straight. She finished TNT and came to your truck as an upgrade driver to make .12 and then .15 the last couple weeks?

Correct me if I'm understanding this wrong as you said you were not allowed to train her, so she came as an upgrade?

Your "silenteagle's advanced winter driving course" was worth taking .10 and then .08 less than her starting pay if she was to just team up with another company driver? This was your second winter, and first as a trainer?

I'm just going to point out to the others. Company teams start at .41 or .42 split plus .10 for every mile above 3500, PLUS up to another .04 for fuel bonus.

If you could, explain at what point in compensation is Prime no longer involved and responsibility falls solely on the LO employer. At what point is the pay only as good as the LO's word.

I believe the top was stated at .15 per mile. please correct me if i am wrong. Plenty of opportunity to take advantage or make false promises by some unscrupulous LO and no one to enforce anything over .15?

On a separate concerns, what are the benifit options. healthcare insurance, 401k, life, dental, vision? Does that come out of the .15?

are what of tax liabilities, reporting and responsibilities of the employer and employee on any salary over the limit Prime will be involved?

I implore you to correct me where I am wrong. I observed this Facebook discussion and I would certainly like to be less horrified if I am misunderstanding these LO employed company drivers deals

Btw I've got a company driver paychart. Yes it's a little old however current rates are certainly higher than the one Im reading.

There was a .02 raise a while back, I'm just not sure how it applied to teams.

AS a L/O prime will only let you pay them .12 cpm that they will pay the codriver. Its up to you to pay the difference. So I know a few guys prime take 12 CPM from them and then they pay their codriver a additional 4-6 CPM with a 1099 at END OF YEAR.

ChuckTaylor, are you questioning my motives or my credentials? You make it sound like I just started driving last year, and I have never trained anyone before. This is wrong on both points. (since you like points) I have over 20 years driving in winter conditions, both cars and trucks (and not pickups). I have over 6 years of training experience, and was certified as a Master Instructor by the US Army both as a Soldier and Civilian.

Your information on teams is different than what was briefed to me, and previously posted on this forum. The truck is paid 31CPM for all miles traveled and split between the drivers. The truck gets a 10cpm bonus for all miles when the truck goes over 3400 miles. I don't know who is correct, but I was told that teams make 15cpm each, and lead seat gets that 1cpm extra. Not far off from what LO's are doing. That extra 10cpm for over 3400 miles is what JDSouza was talking about, where the L/O compensates the driver and puts it on a 1099.

Each driver has to make their own decisions, and it is not right if they are not told the whole deal. I told my friend the whole deal and she accepted my terms. As far as the employment information, the driver is leased to the truck and still a Prime employee. The 401k, insurance, taxes ETC are all taken care of by payroll and charged to the truck. For example, an employee on my truck during TnT phase gets paid 12cpm for all miles each week. If the truck does not achieve 5000 miles, the L/O only pays 12cpm for dispatched miles and Prime pays the difference to make the $600 guarantee. For the L/O the charge comes up to around 14cpm, which the extra 2cpm pays the SS/Unemp/WC/Medicare taxes.

As for motives, if a student does not feel he/she is prepared to handle a truck on their own, many TnT trainers will gladly allow them to stay on the truck. Often they help the student out by ensuring that the $600 guarantee is still in effect if they stay on. Once they upgrade, that guarantee goes away. Either way, the L/O is still paying 14cpm for the student to be on the truck. What really irks me is when the TnT trainer purposely fails to train the student on the tasks they are required to know to upgrade just to keep the student on the truck. My first student was with one of those, and I had to teach him everything on the QC, HOS, how to hook/unhook the trailer, how to do the trip paperwork, how to trip plan, how to fuel, etc...... and he was at 26000 miles!!!

The "A" Seat driver that is on my truck now as a student has been at prime as a flatbed driver for 2 years, and NEVER had his own truck. He second seated with L/O's for two years, and only went with others that stayed on I40 and below. He has NEVER DROVE IN THE NE!!! he has never trip planned, and freaked out the first time I handed him the Atlas. He drives great across the interstate, but that's it.... TWO YEARS EXPERIENCE AND THIS GUY IS MISSING HALF THE SKILLS TO UPGRADE!!!!!
