The cruise control unit on my truck went out yesterday in SC and I'm having to run old school style, using my foot on my return run back to El Paso. Hasnt been that big of a hassle since my truck is governed at 65 and all the rural limits on my route have beem 65 and above. Urban areas I wouldn't use cruise anyways.

Will be interesting to see if this affects my MPG one way or another.

FWIW, My first truck at Stevens when I was on trainee team didn't have cruise period.

Our trucks have the Volvo Enhanced Cruise option with the collision avoidance radar. Really comes in handy, like when I approach a truck moving a 1/2 mph slower. I just let the VEC adjust the speed to maintain a safe following distance rather than have an elephant race trying to pass him.

wow. Last truck I drove that didn't have cruise was............a........1988 Mack R model 600, single axle tractor. Nope! Wait it was those darn single axle Freightliner fl60 Business class day cab with sincronized 6 speed. That was back in 05'. I like my cruise control, on the highway. I feel I can get better mpg with it than my foot mashed on a pedal that would do the same as the cruise anyway. Old school trucks, might do better on the pedal. idk.

When I graduated from Scheider driving school in '95 they assigned me to a cabover with well over a million miles on it. The cruise control was a mechanical throttle lock next to the shiffter. Jake brakes? We don't need no stinkin jake brakes. :)
