9: Does swift have a anti idle policy?
10: What percentage of NE loads?
11: DO you guys force dispatch to NYC?
12: Do you guys pay layover? detention pay 8$hr after 3rd hour
13: What is the Trainee pay?

Talk to the recruiter.
My main complaints about Swift (and why I chose another company) was:
- 25 cpm starting (I'm getting 36 cpm to start)
- No idle
- No APU
- No inverters allowed
- 2 years for school reimbursement (most are 1 year) -
1. They should, call Swift before you attend to verify.
2. They usually hire from everywhere.
3. It depends how far you live away from the Terminal, ask your Driver Leader, usually if you have a Secure Parking Place, YES, if it is a High Theft Area, NO
4. For former Military Personnel, Swift has different programs for Tuition.
5. Ask the Recruiter
6. 2-3 weeks or as long as you desire.
7. Usually after a Year, ask your Driver Leader
8. Qualcomm MCP 200 E-Logs
9. Yes, you can idle but only a certain percentage.
10. The Northeast has plenty of freight if that's where you want to run.
11. All Company Drivers are Forced Dispatch, but there are loopholes that you can use if you don't want a certain load.
12. Layover Pay is paid only if you are not at your Home Terminal, Detention Pay is $15.00 a hour starting after the 2nd Hour and only up to 8 hours maximum or $120.00, but you have to arrive to On-Time to P/Up or Deliver your load. If you are late or fail to note the Arrival or Departure times on the Bill of Ladings, Detention Pay will be denied.
13. Ask your Recruiter.
14. Hazmat is recommended, but not required. If you want Hazmat, Swift will reimburse you the cost after you receive your Hazmat, keep all your DMV paperwork and Hazmat Application to turn in for reimbursemt.
15. 70% Drop and Hook
16. 20% is No Touch, if Unloading is required, Swift will pay for the Lumper. -
You got some of it right...
- yeah starting pay sucks, but increases pretty quick
- we can idle, just not forever...if you are smart about it you can idle all you need to.
- yep, no APU
- we all use inverters, some have permission to use the hard wired, most use the plug in type.
- after about a year your loan is paid off. After year 2 Swift has paid you back your loan amount. -
I don't have my notes with me, but I was within a week of going to Swift training. The points I made are things I specifically asked about.
Pay went to something like 35 cpm at one year.
A 5 minute idle timer between 40-85 (not sure of the numbers) degrees to me is not being allowed to idle. Yes, there are ways to cheat the timer, but doing such things may have repercussions.
Hard wired inverters are for CPAP machines. How well does that microwave work on that plug in inverter?
Swift is the only company I saw who makes you pay for your schooling while driving for them. Yes, they do reimburse you (over a period twice as long) while you work for them. Most companies only make you pay after you quit, and do a loan forgiveness after a certain time or number of miles.
Don't get me wrong; I have nothing against Swift. I see a lot of their trucks out on the road, and I had a scheduled reporting date with them. The only reason I'm not driving for them right now is because something that fits my needs a bit better came available. -
Like the rest said 99% of that info has already been answered but let me add this... .
I'm a new driver and Swift has been great to me.....I had a major family emergency and Swift has been awesome.....the Richmond terminal has excellent staff.....Bernard,Emma and Dexter
Then the instructors Harry ....Vince.....Craig all excellent guys to get with.
If anybody has any questions about Richmond or Swift feel free to hit me up......Im not a propaganda guy but Ill give you my take frim a new Swift company driver standpoint
Also if you want a good Recruiter ask for Melody Gonzalez....she has been fantastic -
Does anyone know what wattage the inverter for the cpaps are? I use a bpap and was told they will install one when I get my own truck, my mentor is an o/o and has hard wired ones so I just use his but have a couple 400 watt plug ins too
