I would think color coding would be a more effective way to recognize a device in a emergency situation... Who in the hell is going to take time in a split sec decision making time whether they should throw the brake or not,, and say wait wait i need to call a time out and read it?????? that's just plain ignorant..... RED and YELLOW... if your color blind then I guess you will need to read it befor you throw it..... how dumb....

Far as scaling I usally do around 35-38000 unless I know how it is loaded....

That iDiOT cop sounds like he was making the rules up as he went along. Did you ask him for proof of his supposed laws???

I sure would have! That is just dumb as can be on his part.

Air gauges are your best friend. After a while you'll be able to hit axles real close with one. I had one for the drives on the truck I sold Broncrider. I could get that one between 33,000 and 34,000 all the time. The ticket to it was to be on level solid ground. Otherwise it wasn't accurate.

Yeah, I checked with DOT guys at the scale house in Anaheim. They have to be legible but they don't have to be different shaped. I bought chromed/blue handles so the writing won't rub off.

Heh, The Beverly Hills DOT pulled me over for going on Sunset said it was posted.. I told him I was working for a contractor on Canon (Michael Eisner's new house as a mater of fact) and I asked where the posting was located. He told me it on the border of B.H. and W. L.A. He tried to nail me for my license plate holder because it swings (My T-8's bumpers doesn't have bolt holes/license plate mounts in the front only on the bottom) and I asked him where is it mentioned in the vehicle code. And then he checked out my load (broke asphalt mainly 3'x3' pieces) and he said "Don't you think you're over-loaded?" I told him to look again and that I was hauling mainly "air" He let me off with a warning not to drive on B.H. posted streets unless I had a permit cleared with the city. As a result I had to go around Hollywood Hills to the 134 and take the back way to get to the job. 3 hours from the Chino airport area with a load of Hot-base every morning starting a 5 am. Needless to say that added more time on my ticket and I made more money as I get paid hourly.

DOT man also tried to mess with me when the contractor moved up Canon where in turns into Benedict Canyon which is LA County, he had no jurisdiction there and I had a permit and the last laugh on that idiot.

NO offense to the Men and Women in blue, but don't try to outsmart a trucker, especially an O/O...we know the laws too:biggrin_2559:

Also, I got pulled over in the High Desert (Lancaster) one time for not having a tarp (I was empty but that didn't matter, DOT had to flex his muscle) on my "load". I asked the cop why I had to tarp a load in the middle of BFE. He told me there were complaints. I looked around and the nearest house was maybe a couple of miles away. The wind in the High Desert comes up in the afternoon and blows more dust around there than a thousand rigs..go figure:biggrin_2559:

law is law, thats the way it is. Im pretty sure parts of I-5 are 65 in a truck. but as stated above a professional driver would know the laws and follow them. you get torn up in CA for going 10 over in a 4 wheeler. so I sure hope you do in a big rig. Also in california a class A doubles the points (and cost) with most citations, and a HAZMAT load could even give 4x the point count. think about that next time you go flying through the golden state.

I've come up with the perfect solution to outragously high traffic tickets and senseless laws aimed solely toward taking money from truckers to line goberment coffers under the guise of "safety".

I no longer accept loads to that state. Too easy...

$285 fine for going just 2 mph over the already artificialy low speed limit? Geezuz that is crazy. What next, prison time for speeding in Kaliphornia? I probably shouldnt say that to loud. Some retarded lawmaker in Sacramento is probably reading this thinking "hey, that could work!!"

Truck speed in CA is and has always been 55mph. And the split speed limit has always been there also. Or I should say since I've been driving starting in 1969.
