Ha ha, very true, there is almost NO place to park in there. I did deliver in there again last summer and it wasn't near as bad. I still prefer the country life even if it doesn't have the perks of city life

My first drop in Philly was worse, but at least the people where I was going had someone knowledgeable on the phone, I gave her the nearest intersection, and she told me exactly how to get there. I met a bus on the cross street, which was truck legal, and there was little give for either of us. The place I went to was Dietz and Watson, I think, and they had the newest group of 96 inch wide reefers I have seen lately.

We go to Hillside, NJ all the time; those ladies haven't a clue, so you are pretty much on your own, there.

NYC was explained as measuring from the center of the axle instead of the roadway to the obstruction, that equates to 13'6" being about equal to 12'2" or about equivalent to that.

There is an exception to the parkway rule for 3 axle and smaller trucks being up to statutory height to stay on the BQE, instead of going off on Astoria Blvd, that is on the newest map, I still have a few copies of the 2007 city map, other than a few more exceptions, and that one exemption there isn't that much difference.

I just got onto a dedicated run to NYC everyday. Wish I said no but I didn't. Once you get used to it, it's not bad at all(except for crazy drivers, tickets, more liability, people blaming you for hitting their POS car, pedestrians running In front of you, motorcyclist zig-zagging through traffic, tight street corners and cars parked on the corner of that tight street turn, bridges marked incorrectly, invisible no truck signs then you get ticketed for being on that road and double parking on an already narrow street) but like I said, once you go there a few times its a piece of cake lol. I had one of the big boss come with me a couple weeks ago and see what i have we have to deal with everyday and after that he gained a whole new respect for us drivers.

I think that is a great idea. In the meantime Union Man has started a thread on NC http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...-local-information-new-york-city-suburbs.html . He has also offered help if you PM him with any questions on NYC.

Sorry but I cannot understand the attitude 'Yeah it's illegal to take a 53' into NYC', but it's OK as long as you don't get in a accident, or we do it all the time. Why risk it? For O/O I understand you may not have th equipment so you risk it, but for compamy drivers? Fortunately I don't have to run NYC anymore, but if my company asked me to do so, either they send a 48 footer or I take the legal interstates to LI. Thar's it.

A few weeks ago my company asked me to take a run which would have put me over 60. I said no, even though the run could have been completed if it was not rush hour. Well it was rush hour and I am not risking my license or my livelyhood to do something illegal to make it easier for my company.

As long as you continue to violate the law (whether a stupid law or not) your company will ask you to do it. And if some 4 wheeler comes up in your blind spot and get caught in your tandems and God forbid dies as a result, the DA will likely charge you with vehicular homicide. Why? Your honor 53' ft trailers are illegal in NYC, if this driver was pulling a legal sized trailer this tragedy could have been prevented. Regardless of whether you get convicted or not, next comes the civil suit in which everything you have worked for will be on the line.

The days of multiple log books, running grossly overweight, triple digit speeds, and disregarding other regulations are over, at least for me. I cannot afford to lose my license, livelyhood, or have my DAC show anything that would discourage a future employer from hiring me.

I'll have to remember that if I pick up there again.

It was a tiny and I mean TINY industrial plot on the southeast corner of N. Main St. and E.Seaman Ave. Can't recall the name of the place but I still can't believe I fit my truck in there.

No, wasn't them. They may have been there though as there were several businesses there. I picked up some display assemblies. The name of the shipper wasn't actually on the building as I recall. It was part of a 2 pick up load with the bulk of it coming from Vernal, NJ. Think it was a company called DMI.

Yep! Freeport can be a real joy to deliver to. Had to rescue several truckers from the byzantine streets of Freeport and play harbor pilot when I volunteered with the Red Cross helping out victims for Hurrican Sandy last year. We had truckers coming from all over the country bringing in supplies and getting lost or run afoul of the local constublary. Thankfully many of the local LEOs were forgiving to truckers who wandered into areas the were not supposed to.
