Hello ya'll, I have a somewhat of a dilemma here, I am looking into Maverick's Reefer Division when I get my CDL. They look to be a outstanding company for new drivers. Also I have looked into Prime and they also seem like a good company to put my foot in the door.

    Thank you,

    Jeremiah

Maverick is a far better company, but Prime will pay you a little more, or at least that's what I hear. I'm a dry van guy though. Reefers make too much noise to me.

Ah ok cool, I do not mind reefer. I am in the military and when you are trying to sleep with a generator running all night you get use to the noise lol but thx for your input.

Reefers are something you just have to get used to I guess. This comes from being the "meat" in a reefer sandwich parked at truckstops on a few occasions. Most will do right by pulling forward in a spot so they won't bother the ones on his sides, but there are some that couldn't care less. Those are the ones I usually end up next too.

Going back to topic, I've only come across one cat that had something bad to say about maverick, which was at the Petro in Jackson, Mississippi. This dude had all kinds of problems though, with the Maverick company being the least of.

If I could physically do it, I would drive Maverick flatbed. I got sick and spent a year and a half out of commission (pancreatic tumor). As a result, My choices were limited to pretty much just dry van if I wanted to work in this industry. Most everybody I've heard talk says that maverick is top notch.

As for prime, I think they pay trainees better than the rest. The problem I've always heard about prime is slow trucks, and those "light" trucks that are like trying to sleep on the backseat of your Momma's Buick. I think you actually get a few more cents per mile for driving one though. If you can tolerate cramped quarters, then maybe it's for you. My disclaimer would be that I've only heard people talking about them, and have not been inside one. They do look small from the outside though.

    Good luck with either choice

I can say you will be treated like a human. Mav cares about the drivers. But the refer boys are out for Two to three weeks at a time. Good luck in your choice. Maverick would love to have you.

Maverick is the kind of company that you can start out with....and STAY with for a long long time. If you want a "Home" for your career, then you know who to choose.... IMO. I can't say that I know anything bad about the other company, but I really can't imagine myself anywhere else than where I am. We have it good here at Maverick, we really do.
