Okay guys, so I realize this is a really silly question but I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out. I'd call recruiting but they're closed. I just got my cdl class A permit. Before I took the test I was under the impression that I needed to take separate tests on Combination vehicles, air brakes, and general knowledge in order to get a permit. All I had to take were the general knowledge and special requirements tests. I passed those tests, is that all that's required for me to hopefully go through orientation and getting though the program? Or do I need to pay for the cdl while in my home state and take all the written tests (with written Pre trip), along with needing to get a medical certificate. And then just turning around and needing to get another medical exam when I get there?
A question about permits and Prime

I suspect that the "special requirements tests" were the combination and air brake endorsements. If your permit is for Class A with air brake, then you're good.
General gets you a Class B.
Combination endorsement ups that to Class A.
Air brake is its own endorsement.
If you needed a physical to get your permit, you will still need to get the physical from the Prime doctor. Personally, I consider that money well spent, since that's a BIG load off of your mind while at orientation. One less thing that can send you home.Southward Thanks this. -
Unfortunately not. It's section 14 in the handbook (possibly just my state?, Texas) it contains stuff like info on oversize vehicles and lighting/reflector requirements. The One other test I took was basically an overview of all the sections I needed to study. I try to limit my doctors visits as much as possible, lol. I just don't want to see one twice if it isn't necessary. I didn't need a physical for the permit, I just need one before I take the written cdl tests. -
air brake is not an endorsement...its a restriction. you can drive a truck with air brakes only if you pass the written test and the pre trip test

You need to take the written tests on parts 2, 5, and 6 before heading to Springfield. Otherwise, you'll be spending your time here studying for them. You won't be allowed in a truck until you pass them.
Taking the air brake endorsement test removes the "no air brakes" restriction on the permit. You don't go in and ask to take the "air brake restriction" test.Southward Thanks this.
