if they are giving ya'll a choice between San Antonio or Dallas, i'd choose neither and pick Austin. hour north of San Antonio, couple hours south of Dallas. houses are still cheap and close to lots of stuff to do. (bought our 4 yr old 3 bed, 2 bath 1,600 sqf house 2 years ago for $80,00k.)
if not austin then Waco. closer to dallas but further from san antonio. college town but is more with than that really whith several big shippers there, aka candy.
if not there then def san antonio. the area around there is simply gorgeous if we move from austin, and it doesn't include a beach, it will be to san antonio.

San Antonio /Austin area is awesome. Myself, I loved living in the Dallas area. They get some wild weather in the springtime tho.
I hate Houston with a passion.tablefor7 Thanks this. -
AUSTIN,TEXAS IS GODS COUNTRY!! And is only 67 miles from San Antonio...S.A. Is a nice second.

I think I should've clarified that I've lived in Texas-- on four separate ocassions-- so I'm no stranger to the state. I've lived in El Paso, Keller, Ft. Worth, and Killeen/Copperas Cove. I agree that Austin is a beautiful area, and is cheaper to live in than other areas...not so sure I'm getting where all the talk about the rain is coming from though...? In '07 we would've gived *anything* for rain and then a monsoon hit, but certainly that wasn't what one would call "rain" more like a freak attack. I loved San Antonio when I visited for a weekend...not sure I'd want to live there. Waco's a possibility....Maybe. Houston traffic scares me. Hubby says Dallas traffic is worse than ever. As for leaving Roehl...no way Jose! We're plenty happy.
It ain't broke so we ain't fixin' it....and it's not about asking them to pay for the move....we have no debts (no, seriously....we don't) so it's not something we can't afford and aren't happy to pay for ourselves. And as for speaking another language....¿Qué es lo que usted no pueda hablar a Español?
Sí, yo hablo español
Thanks everyone for your responses!
