In many places, the holiday curfew starts noon on Friday for oversize. And it continues until Tuesday morning. I've been at the house for a week. The unsuspecting will grab an oversized on a Thursday and get really ticked when they have to sit on that load for 4 days.

I have a buddy that called me yesterday under an oversized, he was trying to get to a receiver in Arizona before noon today because the receiver is closing early. When shippers and receivers close for holidays, freight slows down.

Dispatch will put you on a load that's suppose to pick up or deliver on Friday or Monday and they don't even check to see if the place is open.

Its all going to depend on what you are hauling and where. If you're hauling bottled water to Oklahoma then yes you will be busy!

Freight is usually slow on Mondays, especially Mondays after holidays. Unless like chompi said, if you atent't bringing water to okc than itll be slow

It depends on who you drive for and what you're hauling. My employer operates 24/7/365, BUT my employer will only work you on a holiday if you volunteer for it. My employer will also pay you for the holiday, even if you take the day off. If you choose to work the holiday, you will get an extra 8 hrs of pay on top of the hrs you work that day.

    Agreed.

In all severe weather emergencies, floods, tornados, hurricanes...etc...the first thing that gets damaged is the water supply. In floods and whatnot, the water supply gets contaminated. In the big disasters like tornados, hurricanes, big forest fires, access to drinking water gets interrupted and you have a mad dash to get water trucked in. Next, you need a continued supply of canned goods and fuel.

It's funny how the general population hates trucks and whatnot until disaster strikes. When the big one hits California, they will throw CARB regs out the window. Hypocrites.
