Avoid Marten Transport LTD.

You clearly don't know what your talking about. I've been reading this thread and finally stopped my laziness of retrieving my password. I worked for Marten for 2 years, left for a year to be home and came back almost 2 months ago. Anybody that knows anything about the trucking industry would not recommend C.R. England to anybody that is interested in a decent living.

Marten had the lowest length of haul ? Do you actually expect us to believe this ? I went out for about 30 days after orientation. My loads were like this, western Wisconsin to Boston to run through the house and pick up my stuff. Boston to Indy. Indy over to Harrisburg Pennsylvania. PA to Racine Wisconsin. Wisconsin to southern Mississippi. Mississippi to San Antonio Texas. Texas to Milwaukee Wisconsin. Green bay to Southern California California to Portland Oregon. Portland to Seattle Washington. Seattle to northern Kentucky. Kentucky to Chicago. Chicago to New York for ontime hometime.

Does that sound like nothing but 550 mile trips ? No swaps either. Are there some short trips ? Of course there are short trips. That's the way the trucking industry is. Contrary to what drivers think it should be, not all trips are coast to coast. As far as swaps go, if you don't want to do the swap here's what you put in the Qualcomm, "No". Marten doesn't force you to take swaps. They're your choice. You don't have to swap out with someone especially if your not going to get more miles out of it. But if you do nothing but turn down every single swap, don't expect to swap out with somebody to get home. Swapping is a two way street.

Just out of curiosity, I tallied up my trips for the last three months 9/24 to 12/24 and my average is 927 miles per trip. I'd like to know where that guy found that stat.

And of those trips, I only had to swap one - the day before thanksgiving, so the driver could get home.

 

I worked for them for a short bit and I did not care for reefer, however they did seem to be a good company. For the most part you all must agree that all companies are in business to make money, and most drivers are to however alot of drivers would rather whine then to run hard and make money. Every company has slow weeks and wait times and breakdowns just part of the job, cant take it then get out of the truck and get a 8-5 job. Gypsycowgirl keep up the good work and be safe!!!!

 

Things must be bad if you see the following as a +,

3,000miles x.36 = $1,080/60hrs= $18 bucks a hour

No OT, Home for a few days a month, Your wife and kids calling someone else Dad while your away, you sleep in a area less then the area a death row inmate gets, work all hours of the day and night at a piece rate, and eat bad meals with who knows what kind of sanitary conditions, waiting in line to shower or use a nasty bathroom full of god awful smells and you say their is no reason to whine since your running hard and making money?

All this for $18 a hour if your lucky? since I bet most don't do 3k a week every week do they? I would not be whining, I would be looking for a way out of such a waste of my life as OTR driving is at what they pay.

But I guess if you like spending 24/7 at someone else's beck and call and in their control while only being compensated for part of that time, then my hats off to you.

I prefer to work hard and actually get paid for it and get paid extra for working extra hard. Not just part of it at a flat piece rate.

Does Marten have a No chain policy? and if so how do you stay legal sitting around waiting for chain laws to be lift when your supposed to be running the load? Or do you just doctor up your logs and make it look good for the office?

 

Great what do you do for a living? do you make $1000 plus a week??

 

The same as most here, I drive a truck 9-10hrs a day in Western Wa for a aircraft manufacturer. Work 45-50 hrs a week and make $1,092 to $1,265 per week , every week.

No more qualcomm msgs when i'm off duty or roasting and freezing because the company is to cheap to install APU's but wants you to keep the idle percentage down.



Hopefully I will never have to do the OTR thing again. But if I do, it will certainly be only as a last resort.

 

I did like them till today. it seems to me as soon as I started keeping things legal my miles were less, and that point system thing...amazingly doubled 2x points form me. one scratch on another truck no longer than my finger no other damage than that. and getting pulled out of the mud..points gone i'm gone the f'up thing is I live in Atlanta and they decide to do this in Cali. but they were so nice to Put me on a bus at my own expense that was supposed to be leaving at 5pm was ready at 3:30 and im still here. I've been fired before but never for so less in my life...if I wasn't so scared of jail.......

 

Apparently they have had some angry drivers too often. Oh and watch ur log book, if it does not match to the very second of fuel stops, cut off times, or anytime u stopped u will be in violation, u will be written up, u will be called in to Wisconsin Terminal and u will get a serious butt chewin.


Ok this is the one that really got me laughing. Are you serious about this? *sarcastic look* God forbid they would expect you to keep a legal logbook--That would so mean you were following DOT regulations--imagine that concept. FYI--thats a DOT thing--has nothing to do with martin. Maybe you need to go back to school and pay attention this time. There is a reason your supposed to put in your fuel stops exactly. Evidently its beyond your thought process as to why. Dont get me wrong--I am just a Redneck Lady--so what do i know right? LOL So , let me get this straight, what would the purpose of a log book be if you dont match with the qualcomm? Pointless huh? Imagine that concept! Wow--i wonder where this guy comes from--i really wanna stay away from that part of the world.

Gypsy, you did an awesome job of backin up Marten. I give you props. I haven't worked for them but have never heard too much bad about them. Some people just aint cut out for OTR--it happens but then they gotta cry about their ignorance. Oh well--good luck to ya and be safe out there!

 

sorry to hear you got fired. why did they not give you any notice?

 

I've been seeing more and more Marten trailers on the rails these days. Not a good sign for those looking for longer runs. FWIW....
