I'm trying to determine approximately what weight a modern, class 8 tractor will weigh.
A lot of variables here, but here are some spec's.
Peterbilt 379 or Kenworth w900/t800
60"ish bunk
12 front
40 rears
air ride
single frame
c-15
13 or 18 spd
2 line wet system w/50 gallons tank capacity
Again, just some basic specs. Anybody have similarly spec'd trucks that know how much they weigh?
Thanks.
Tractor empty weights?

2002 t800
Detroit
13 speed
22.5 low profile on aluminum wheels
120 gallon tanks
Side exhaust
Two toolboxes full of junk
Headache rack with about 200 feet of chain
60" sleeper
236" wb
12/40 axles
Right at 20k full of fuel with me in it. Door tag says 16,834. Do a search on truckpaper a lot of times they take pictures of the weight tag.Road Killer and Floyd Thank this. -
my 2002 T600, C15, 18sp all alum wheels, centrifuse drums (light), twin 150 tanks, 72" sleeper was 20,500# half full of fuel. KWs are heavy like they're full of dead bodies.
my 2013 389 is 17,200 full of fuel with the same drivetrain and a 36" bunkFloyd Thanks this. -

I'm trying to spec a truck to go along with a tri-axle 180bbl aluminum vac. tank for hauling in the northeast. I'm drawn to the Pete's, but i still have to keep a hold on what is efficient in order to maximize my payload and of course fuel efficiency.
I currently own a small fleet of 3 tractors 6 wheelers and a tri-axle. These trucks are all designated for local farm use hauling feed from the field to the farm and the tractors mostly pull tankers in the 8500 gallon range for hauling manure from the farm to the fields. Local meaning our average field distance from the farm is in the 5 mile range.
This will be my first truck purchased for long haul operations. Propobly will be used but possibly new lease. If i go used i need something in the 75,000$ range.
Thanks again in advance for any advice. -
My T800 is a little lighter (19K + change), but it's a 9sp and a 10.3L CAT. 230" w/b, 60" sleeper, 2-line wet kit with 50 gallon hydraulic tank.
The T6's and T8's are a little lighter than the W9's, but not much. The Pete's usually run a bit lighter than KW's, but again, not by much. It all depends on how they're spec'd. (even tire size will affect weight)
BTW, for $75k, you should be able to find a really nice rig. -
If you're going for light weight... stay the hell away from Kenworth. This also goes if you're looking to buy a truck from a company that will give you good service and parts availability down the road after the sale. I will NEVER own another KW. Kenworths are pretty... and that's about it.
LSL mack Thanks this. -
I have to add mine was 18,900 full of fuel.before I added the rack, boxes, and gear.
I lost 2400 lbs from my 99 Volvo 770. It had a lighter engine too, but virtually the same specs but huge sleeper. 232" wb, Volvo engine, 13 spd, 120 gallon tanks. That thing was a monster.
