I will be starting school in June to get my cdl. The county is paying for it. Which is nice so I can choose the company that I want to work for. I have been starting early to do research on the company that I want to start out with. From everything that I see, for the companies that will hire recent grads, most of them are within the same pay range (give or take a few pennies). However, what is most important to me is the rider policy. I want my wife to be on the road from day one after I get out of company training. I need a company that will allow me to do that. Also, I want a company that is going to treat their drivers well. I have a prehire letter from Swift, and waiting to get other back from Stevens, BST, Boyd Brothers, and Werner. I was also looking hard at Roehl. Out of these, or really any company out there has the best rider program? I don't mind to pay insurance, if I have to and would consider flatbed too. Yeah that is my dream company, but their rider policy is 6 months safe driving. I want my wife to go with me as soon as I can get a load her way to pick her up. She has medical issues that disqualify her from driving, so she can't team with me, or I would go that route.

Central refrigerated services will allow riders from day one. I loved my time and they used to treat drivers with resoect.. not the ole song and dance of you owe them. I dont know what schools they allow but you can call and asj. Used to get lots of cross country i80 loads.

I was looking at them too. Not sure if they allow my school, but I will check it out. Most of the ones that I listed are a partial list the school gave me at the introduction. They were not on there, but like I said only a partial list. Thanks for the reccommendation, checking them out right now.

I don't know about the rider policy,think some you have to wait 90 days.Then post #2 says 6 months for schneider.Once you start driving you're going to find out there is no such thing as a dream company and no such thing as a company that treats their drivers well.You have to earn that.

I mean, I know I have to earn the way that I am treated, but you read horror stories of break downs for days and no one from the company will help. I don't want to be in that situation, if I can avoid it. I know that Swift will let me go day one with my wife. I checked Central Refridgerated and not sure they hire recent CDL grads or not, website was pusing their school real heavy.

Sadly enough you're going to have brkdowns iwth every company.Some days some only hrs.You'll also be sitting many times hrs waiting to get loaded or unloaded.I know it's stuff you don't wanna read but that's the reality of trucking and there is no way getting around it especially with mega companies.But iwth no cdl no exp your choices are going to be very limited for a good yr.Every one of us paid our dues and many still are yrs later into trucking.Thats just how it is,ups and downs.You do learn to live with it and how to deal with it.

Pattyj I know that break downs are apart of it, and I know I have to pay my dues, I don't mind that, I guess I just want to work for someone not like C.R. England that has the most horrible reputation in the world.
yessir....I was looking at them and they are on my list. I just found Averitt and they said you can take your wife whenever. Does your wife go with you all the time? How does that work for you all?
