I got my cdl a few weeks ago. I am around 50 and have no driving job exp. Where would you go to get going? North/Plains/Montana etc.
I dont want to go to the oilfields and the mess there. I can buy a used rig if I could find a good lease thing for beginners.I am thinking that flat bedding might be good for me. I like the visibility and lower profile. Are there any programs that will take me on? Not the famous bad ones. I would Never buy a rig from a company I was driving for.
One thing is that I would prefer not to drive all night. Just my preference. I would take a dumptruck training route also if I could get it.
    Any ideas??

I am looking at Maverick. They haul mainly east of the Rockies according to their website, but it seems like they pay great money. I am going to school to get my cdl and am looking to get into flatbedding. In all my research thus far they seem to be the best that I have found.

If you think that $600.00 a week gross, coupled with working up to 100 hrs. a week is "great money", then I guess Maverick (or ANY large carrier) would be a good choice.

Hey now. I come from a call center environment where I grossed about half of that. So, anything would be a raise to me. LOL.

you might consider Central Oregon Trucking, I think they hire new drivers. I see them where I work they are there a lot for the lumber products. Very nice trucks.

You obviously have NO IDEA of what you are talking about. You can sit still all week and make more than that at Maverick, be out for 5 to 5.5 days, then go home for the weekend. Some of the other companies you refer to... well, that could be. But not Maverick.

Check Careerbuilder website. You mentioned dump trucks; how about waste companies like Waste Management or similar companies. System Transport hires new drivers and works with some CDL schools for recruiting. Prime has flatbed also for new drivers and pays $600.00 a week while being trained. Most Maverick drivers make over a grand a week.

I pull a skateboard for Maverick and love it. Make good money- supporting a family of four on my earnings-get home every weekend like clockwork usually Friday around 7-8pm most weeks. Have great equipment. Have a great working environment within the company. It is HARD WORK tho, don't think its easy because you will get a shock if you expect to just be driving around all of your hours. Other than Maverick, I would recommend 2. TMC . McElroy 3. Boyd Bros 4. BTC and 5. Melton 6. Roehl Not necessarily in that order. Do your research, check out all of the Maverick (and others) threads. Good luck!

If you want to keep in shape then flatbedding is the way to go.I would not lease till you get the exp and know what trucking is all about.Have you seen the price of fuel? You should get to know your company, how they run,how many miles, your dispatcher all that and then some before leasing. You could be setting yourself up for failure. You'll probably have to go otr.You may not have your choice of day or night driving. You pick up and deliver loads day and night. You cater to the customers the customers and trucking companies does not cater to the drivers.
