RickG: Thanks for that. I am new to the industry, as you can tell, so have not learned all the terms yet. Thought expidite was local. I checked them out on their website and they are 100 percent O/O and I don't have my own truck or authority, and really I just want to be a company man.

Most expedite trucks are owned by fleet owners that hire drivers to run on percentage .

Oh okay. Thanks for the info. Right now, I am leaning towards Maverick Temp Controlled or flatbed. #2 is TMC flatbed (I like the shiny Peterbilts with a CAT). #3 is Roehl and #4 is SWIFT.

it depends mostly on what is in your background. plus the top 3 things you will need to get. is a passport or passport fast card for canada. a twic card. and a hazmat edorsment plus tankers. I think they are requiring tankers for liquid tot loads that are loaded into 53' vans. if your not sure if you can go to canada. go to the county court house clerks office and get a copy of your records. a lot of stuff you would think to be a problem. can be a big problem crossing into canada. and no one person knows the list of stuff that can keep you out of canada. child support is one of them. an arrest record no matter how young you were. or weather it went to court or not. plus any kind of criminal conviction no matter how small. canada use a different system to conduct background checks at the boarder.

on the stuff I said, you need. companies will give you time to get it. it's just rather expensive. this aside. try resarching in other areas other then the trucking fourms. most of the people on here are company drivers sitting in a truck stop some where. and the are either tired or fatigued. or upset at the company they work for. some on here are recruiters or part of the trucking companies it team watching the fourms for bad things being said about the company. so a good rule of thumb. only believe about 2% of what is posted in the trucking fourms to be the truth.

MrMatt, I have been doing research on company webpages as well and along with other sites like this. When I go to school I am getting, doubles/triples, tanker, and hazmat. It is all covered in the tuition. I am working on passport. I have everything ready, just waiting on money to come in. Same with the TWIC card. It is very expensive and I am not working right now, so will have to get when I get signed on with a company. Thanks for all the advice. I have no criminal background and no kids so Canada can check all they want, they wont find anything lol.

Get the passport card . It is less expensive than a passport and is good for land transportation but not flying

I pretty much knew you weren't working. I just wanted to give you some good advice. who you decide on is up to you. just make plans to be there for atleast 5 years. this trucking stuff isn't like any other job you,ve had. one thing you have to remember. is trucking companies will say anything to get you in there truck. so if i had it to do all over again. I would go for the ones that do more then just trucking. one day your health will become unstable. and that can put you out of it. so to help. try looking for a company that has lower more stable positions that you can do. the last thing you want is to be put out of a job. and having to try and find another driving job with health problems.

MrMatt, Thanks for the advice. I have never even considered that. I have been looking at the bigger carriers like Roehl, Werner, and flatbeds like TMC and Maverick. They all should have trip planning or DM jobs that I can always move into if I need to. I found some smaller companies that don't look too bad. But I am finding that the one company I really wanted is saying anything to get me into the door. I have a pre hire with Swift and was considering it heavily so I could get on their Wal-Mart runs, but they don't pay orientation and their pay scale is somewhat confusing. Thanks for the advice, stay safe out there.
