It wont hurt anything to drive with a clogged filter. If it gets bad enough you will just have the annoying buzzer and stop engine light ringing in your ears while driving.

Check engine light will give you poor fuel mileage.

Okay any suggestions...whar cause it to come on and how to diagnose
-
Your 99 s60 wont have a crankcase filter that would set a check engine light. There is a small screen inside the valve cover, that makes sure no oil comes out of the blow by tube. You need to pull the code that is causing the check engine light to come on. Detroit didnt start putting breathers on until the EPA 07. The only engine that would throw a CEL for the crankcase breather is an ISX, or an EPA10 DD15

I have '99 freightliner with cummins N-14 PLUS engine kot s60

Yeah Agree , sometimes check engine light can effect your fuel mileage , leaving the cap loose will cause fuel vapors to leak and that leads to poor fuel mileage. Tighten your cap until it clicks 3 times and occasionally check the gasket and plastic housing for cracks.

I guess you're only here to promote your business? Because DIESELS don't have GAS caps, it's a truck not a car.
Back to the topic. You should have a diag switch, which is sometimes hidden down by the diagnostic port. Flip that and the check engine light should flash out 3 digit codes. Post the codes and we can tell you where to start looking. Many things can cause a check engine light, guessing isn't a productive diagnostic procedure.QUALITYTRUCK Thanks this.
